How about some actual quality instead of a package of second tier talent?

Anaheim would be stupid to trade Getzlaf for anything less than a king's ransom.

Bad seasons happen...Look at Jason Spezza the past couple years and Eric Staal earlier this season for example.

Hate to say it but out of the big 3, Getzlaf is probably the least likely to get traded. You don't trade a top 10 center in the league.

I don't see Getzlaf as attainable by the Leafs. High end talent needs to be going the other way in any deal for him.

I have to ask, is that your offer for every elite player in the league?

He costs a whole lot more. You don't get a top 10 center for a steal like that. I remember seeing this exact offer for Parise, and multiple fans repeating it... Why?

Unless he's being traded out of Boston.

Luke Schenn is the new Kaberle. Leafs fans still seem to think he's a top shelf talent.

Schenn and Grabovski don't get you Getzlaf.

you would still be far off, 28 other teams would beat that offer.

Schenn and Grabovski don't get you Getzlaf.

Boston management last year seemed to agree with Leaf fans when they traded Colbourne, a 1st and a conditional pick for him

Schenn (top 4 D) and a *signed* Grabovski (top 6 player) is a decent foundation for a Getzlaf deal.

From there I believe the Leafs have to:

Add in 1 of the following (1st round pick 2012, 1st round pick 2013, Kadri, Colbourne)

Add 1 or 2 of the following (Holzer, Aulie, Blacker, 2nd round pick)

I think Schenn, Grabovski, Kadri and Holzer would be an excellent return for Getzlaf. Is it the best offer out there? I doubt it. Will Grabo sign an extension to play in Anaheim? doubtful as well.

Even this is problematic. We couldn't consider any offer like this until all those teams with depth at center take a pass on Getzlaf. Teams like Colorado would have the inside track.

I think Grabovski might be one of the best centers offered to you. If Colorado is interested I'm sure Stastny will be offered. He is definiately a better player than any single player the Leafs are willing to offer but I'm curious which centers Anaheim thinks are attainable AND how many of those are better than Grabovski?

Schenn is bottom pairing this season. Garbage foundation.

As a sabres fan I'd be willing to offer Roy and a lot more. He's been a much better point producer throughout his career then Grabovski and is signed for more then just this year. The leafs would have to gut their team to get Getzlaf.

Nothing the Leafs have would make me give up a Getzlaf.

Ryan, on the other hand... I really like Kadri (still), I like what I've seen from Gardiner, and Schenn. But it would take all three to make me part with a special talent like Ryan.

Why would we want a washed up player like Getzlaf? He sucks. I would trade close to nothing for him. He's not the type of player we need on the leafs. Everyone on our roster has more trade value than Getzlaf.

If we had to include our top prospect(s) along with a pick, plus a couple conditional firsts if Getzlaf walked from the team he landed in, we'd do that. We can afford to restock our prospect pool, what we can't afford is to spend the next four years trying to find and groom a first line center. We will make the deal that needs to be made.
