NYR should make a push, send Dubinsky and Wolski and a draft pick.

i would assume if he truly was on the block he would be exactly what the wild would be looking for.

what would it take?:

just to throw out some other names:

goalies: harding(pending UFA), hacket, keumper
prospect fowards: zucker, phillips, larson (sp?), bulmer
forwards: clutterbuck, brodziak (pending UFA), etc
defense: Zidlicky, Zanon, anyone really....

1st would definitely be in play, we dont have a 2012 2nd though

BUF sheds Miller's salary and improves themselves up the middle.

CBJ has a 50/50 shot of being more secure at goaltending and defense then they've been in a while (50/50 because I feel like moving Miller and Ehrhoff is either going to be wildly successful or a total flop, there's no in between and CBJ probably can't go any lower). Also, more defenders means there's less likelihood of ever seeing Lebda. That in itself is already a big win.
Miller isnt waiving his No trade to go to Columbus, plus there not trading Ehrhoff already

carter would go along way to convincing the nashivlle dmen the ownership is serious.

But do you have the impact assets now to get him? i cant see columbus wanting prospects picks for him.

LA or T.O. have more nhl ready talent they can move i think.

Besides of what has already been said in this thread...that Columbus is looking for someone who actually plays defense.

Re-unite him with Richards and get Bernier back. Now that would be something.

Trading Carter will be tough for Columbus to find 1st and for most a team willing to take his contract on with NTC until he's 37. That right there alone automatically eliminates a lot of teams.

The next thing is what direction Columbus is taking? They wont get a good old hockey trade for another top player 1 for 1 and I may be wrong but I don't think they're looking for picks and prospects more so help right now so where does that leave them?

IMO Columbus in trading Carter are looking to add depth with 2 or maybe even 3 young NHL players with upside. Not necessarily young players with star potential but at the very least 40-50 points 20 + goals or young D men with the ability to play 20+ minutes a night capable of playing in all situation as a top 4 D men.

So as a Leaf fan just as an example to use what it would take to trade for Carter IMO anything less than a Gunnarson, Bozak, Kulemin type package Carter wont be traded. Columbus will try to get the best they could get and will obviously ask for a teams best prospect along with a package of the least 2 of the types of names above but they wont get that. There's not many teams that would risk taking that contract on for 11 years giving up there best prospect and 1st round pick for a struggling player on top of that.

They have Wiz. No need for JJ.

Bernier + Loktionov/Voynov + 2nd?

What? How do Loktionov or Voynov = Johnson? They dont. JJ would be a #1 on Columbus. Wiz isnt.

Columbus wants at least a relatively young defenseman who can actually play, and/or defensive prospects, which is the same as what we want. We're not good trading partners.

There's also the pick, make it a 1st if you think that's better. JJ isn't a #1 anywhere. #1's aren't defensive liabilities.

Not to speculate, but Los Angeles may be the only team that could add a significant piece to their team without giving up much of the present. There isn't much of a current role on the Kings for guys like Voynov, Loktionov, Forbort, Kitsyn, Toffoli, etc.

With the number of quality prospects they have in reserve, Los Angeles could make some serious noise over the duration of the season.

Whether a #1 or not, I'd still take him for Carter as long as Bernier is there with him. JJ would solidify our top 4 greatly. We'd have a group that consists of Wiz, Methot, Moore, Tyutin, Nikitin, and JJ.

I wonder if Nashville could pony up an offer for him. Don't know if columbus would be willing to trade in division, but you gotta try to land this guy.

I could see that working for Suter if he's willing to sign an extension, which I doubt but it's possible. But if not, maybe something like Blum+Hornqvist?

This. Even assuming Howson can get value for Carter, the notion that his most significant move would prove a failure so soon should be evidence enough that he has no business as an NHL GM.
