Montreal-Columbus

Could something around Carter and our first round pick in 2012 be a possibility? Columbus looks to be in a bit of a rebuild, and there seem to be rumours that neither Carter nor Howson are happy with each other. So, since Montreal is looking at being in the bottom 5, would a top 5 pick with the potential to be the #1 overall be worth it to Columbus? Would we have to add to it?

Keep in mind, the only untouchables for the deal are Subban, Price, Pacioretty, and Cole from our roster, and Tinordi and Beaulieu from our prospect pool.

So, can both teams' fans weigh in on how to make this work, if possible?

I will start:

Eller and our 2012 1st for Carter.

(Keep in mind that this deal only happens after we are assured Carter's shoulder is ok).

If I was Columbus I would want someone who has produced more than Eller.

I would offer Plekanec, Weber & 2nd for Carter.

Trying to keep the 1st overall pick for Montreal would be the best bet.

I'd rather keep Pleks for our 2nd line center and use Carter for our 1st if possible.
Eller and our 1st would be fine but i'm worried about how much a cancer Carter would be in our room and on the ice.

I could only see this happening if Plekanec was part of the deal. Montreal won't have Carter/Plek/DD/Eller all at Centre

How about not trading Plekanec for someone worse than him.

Btw no one wants Carter's contract.

The 1st + Eller is an extreme overpayment imo for just Carter, Eller has been improving very nicely under Cunneyworth is a VASTLY improved over last year. I'm not sure I would even do just 1st for Carter. There's not room for Carter and Plek with DD&Eller also at Centre.

Carter is a great player but isnt he always injured? Not worth the risk IMO.

Ya your probably right .It's not in our best interest to trade Eller and our 1st for Carter.

A top five pick and top six forward is more than enough for Carter, a sixty point center who isn't performing, has attitude issues, and is signed until the end of the century. You'd be lucky to get that much and as a Habs fan I personally wouldn't do it.

People who don't watch the Habs don't know Eller. He is a lot better than his point totals have shown this year although now they are starting to catch up. He got zero opportunities with JM, now under RC he's starting to produce at a much more consistent pace.

So last year CBJ trades a top-10 pick PLUS a solid young top-6 winger with upside for Carter.

This year, it is 'extreme overpayment' to trade a potential top-10 pick and a 3rd line center with some upside for Carter? ???

i see...

Well I don't know about extreme but I definively think it was a bad trade by Colombus. I would pass on Carter.

Edit: By that I mean, it was overpayment then and giving something similar now that his value has dropped is still overpayment. Hell, right now, Eller alone has a similar ES point pace to Carter so adding a high first rounder to that seems like too much to me. Anyway, habs are sick of injury prone players.
