This guy is terrible. He really brings nothing to the table besides a veteran presence. Not to minimize that at all. This is a very young team and I'm sure having a guy with his experience helps, but he should be on the 4th line. It is pretty clear he doesn't have much of anything left to offer at this point. I'd be all for seeing Nino get a shot in his place. IMO he's been earning more minutes with his play as of late.
Vet making lots of money. Guys like that will always get double the benefit of the doubt that any other type of player gets. Its not a Cappy thing either. This is pretty much par for the course with any coach.
His salary really shouldn't dictate his minutes. Let him ride the 4th line where it is acceptable for forwards not to contribute anything offensively.
My worry is that if the top line slows down, we are going to need one of the other lines to pick up that slack. Cappy should be trying to find something that works now so we are prepared if and when that happens. Rolston needs to see his ice time cut down.

He really should be playing for Bridgeport at this point but the Isles cannot risk exposing him to waivers as it would put them under the cap if he was claimed (fat chance!).
It's gotten to the point where I'd honestly rather see Wallace and possibly even Pandolfo get his minutes. Rolston is such a gigantic waste.
Unfortunately it's par for the course, but Capuano isn't doing anything to try and mix & match the 2nd & 3rd lines. It seems to me that wherever Rolston plays, that line has a horrible game. He seriously needs to be in the press box for the rest of the season. I'd much rather have Trent Hunter & his slow skating then this guy. At least we know Hunter would be playing on the 4th line.

Everyone here knows how much I hate Snow, so discredit me if you want. I think Rolston's playing time is 100% Snow. Remember Rolston had to waive his NTC to come play for us. Snow probably gave his "word" to Rolston that he would get 2nd/3rd line ice time and PP point time. I think Capuano's hands are tied by Snow saying stupid ****(see Nino). Capuano is not afraid to bench a player (Okposo,Comeau) or start someone other that golden boy on opening night. Snow and his "word" strike again.

I misread the title of the thread as "when DID rolston get demoted". It's very disappointing that he is still on the team. It worries me that he IS on the team, because he would not be on any other NHL roster.
As for when he will be demoted. Don't worry, snowang have made it very clear that he is a very good veteran presence. Luckily, he will not be going anywhere soon...unless, of course, there was an unfortunate accident.
He has decent speed for a 38 year old and a decent shot but its absolutely amazing how he can't contribute AT ALL. I can count 2-3 times per game where a recieves an easy pass from a teammate and it bounces off his skate and ends up 10 feet ahead of him. He literally can't control the puck.
He shouldn't be on the powerplay and he shouldn't be anywhere near the top 3 lines. Crappy has to switch him and Nino asap.
The fact that he's being paid 5 million is insane, what a waste.

You're probably right on this one.
I wouldn't be surprised if Snow and Rolston were friends before this year, they've gone through the American hockey system, and Snow isn't much older.
Of course, Cappy could still keep Rolston on the fourth line, or tell Snow that he should be the healthy scratch. I don't think Rolston is a risk of being picked up on waivers, of course, but Snow won't send him down.
Bear in mind that Rolston's career is probably over if he didn't waive his NTC. He would have continued in the AHL and retired when the year is over. With the Isles, he at least gets a chance to earn another contract, and I thought he might be valuable to the team (better to have one year of Rolston vs. two of Hunter). I was way off on that.

why do you assume Garth is telling Fred Flinstone what to do with players?

I think the more likely scenario is that Rolston waived his NTC as more of a favor for Lamoriello than anything Snow did or didn't say to him.
Remember, this was a salary cap transaction. We traded a useless Hunter at 2 years x $2 million a year for Rolston at $5 million for one year. Net net, it cost the Isles a million, got us to the floor this year, and presumably got us a more useful player than Hunter. Next year, when the new Tavares, Okposo, Grabner, and hopefully Neilsen/McDonald/Parenteu renewal contracts kick in, the salary floor will not be a concern any longer.
In a nut shell, Rolston should be in the owner's box as the only reason he is here is to help the owner not get fined millions of bucks for not reaching the CBA defined salary floor. He is not here for any reasons associated with actually playing hockey, because we all see, every game, that he the worst player on the ice for both teams.
Everyone's beef really is this: Why the heck is he on the ice at all?
What organizational nimrod is making that determination? Blame Snow all you want, but you can bet lots of money the owner, Chuck, is telling Snow every day, "I give him $XXX of my money, he better play."
2 weekes before the trade deadline Rolston should be waived...no one will pick him up so Snow would demote him then try unloading him again via Re entry waivers...perhaps then someone will bite....
season already half over...so he has less then 2.5 mill left on re entry it will cost a team about 1.25 mill to grab the guy
