Random question.

I guess I'll go with the team that didn't lose in the first round?

aren't the '03 devils basically the '93 islanders, except with a hall of fame defense and goalie, and better in every other conceivable way?

and if there's one thing that the defensively-challenged pens couldn't handle, it was a quick, puck moving/rushing defenseman. those devils had one on each pairing.

I'd pick '01 Devils over either.

Well, I'd pick '84 Oilers over both, but that wasn't really the question...

Brodeur stops 30 of 32
Barrasso stops 27 of 31

Game 4:

NJ wins 5-4

Langenbrunner from Friesen and Elias at 0:39 of the 3rd (Barrasso replaced by Wendell Young)

So according to the sim matchup at whatifsports.com, the 03 Devils would've swept the 92 Pens in a series.

...not sure how much I believe that...

Assuming the Pens dont choke like in 1993, they probably win. 2003 Devils were the weakest of their their three championship teams. They specialized in shutting down one line teams but had trouble against the Senators in the ECF - only a godlike performance from Brodeur and clutch scoring from unlikely sources let them win that series. And the 92 Penguins were better than the 03 Senators

The puck went from center, to wing, to the other wing, back to center, and into the net in 0:07

The Pens swept the Bruins and Hawks in 1992. The Devils got by the Senators (thanks to a poor defensive play on a 2-on-1) in 7 games and the Ducks in 7 games. That alone pretty much sums it up doesn't it? And that's ignoring even looking at the lineup of the Pens.

The Pens were a 39 win team and needed 7 games to upset the Capitals
