Petry may have missed a handful of those chances but he also hit a lot of them. Easily the best player outside of Dubnyk tonight.
Not taking anything away from Chorney as I agree he played pretty well and did not struggle as much as he usually does in the defensive zone.
Good to hear that Petry is continuing his strong play. That's quite an accomplishment considering whats expected of him. He is playing top 4 minutes against strong opposition...he is exceeding what I thought he would accomplish at this point in time.
As for Chorney...he has to be an upgrade on Tubert.
Also thought Hall and Eberle created things when they were on the ice. Defensively I thought we blocked shots early but still too many chances for the Sharks. A win is a win though.
Finally, not even going to be sad a little when Hemsky gets traded. He clearly has stopped caring. Horcoff is useless too and wish they were both off the team.
Only caught the last 5 minutes of Regulation and the O/T and SO.
Were the shots an indication of the territorial advantage?
It appears as if Dubnyk outright won the game for them...was Dubnyk as good as the stats indicate?
Looks like the hockey gods smiled on the Oil as opposed to crapping...nice to see for a change.
I expect that the outcome will be different tomorrow night.
The shots weren't a good indication, a lot of back and forth play. The Oilers either A) Missed the net on the rush/ had a SJ Dman deflect it or B) had the play broken up/ fumbled passes. They realistically could have had 10-15 more shots on goal in the game.
I'm happy with this game, the boys gave it an honest effort for 65 minutes and that's what I wanted to see. If we had played like this against Columbus I have no doubt we would have walked out of there with a win. Hopefully they've turned the page and bring this type of effort more games then not. I know its not likely but a man can dream. I think going forward the best thing for this team would be to finish 6th or 7th and pick Reinhart.
Always laugh at the fact that after a win, PGT are so short and after a loss everyone decides to *****.
Cherish the win.
The Negative Nancy's just don't have enough to complain about. "They got outshot badly, and well ummmm" Even though the Sharks outshot the Oilers really badly I dont recall having too many of those "I cant watch moments".
If he's not traded at the deadline(which I think he will), I hope the Oilers re-up Sutton.
I'm throughly convinced any enjoyment of an Oiler victory is against HFOil forum rules.
So true ... people just carry their grudges from previous games into this one. In this case, they look at the shot clock and just assume it was a bloodbath that we somehow emerged from (comparing this to the Roli game that he stole from SJ a few years ago is just silly).
Certainly not the greatest win, but so many of those shots were weaksauce that it's not even worth registering them.
I was as ticked as everyone else about Saturday's performance, but credit where credit is due - they played a better game today and beat a much better team.
Also, throwing out random Horcoff stats in the PGT just to further your Horcoff hate after a win? WTF?
They didn't play like crap. The LA game was way worse then this game. This game they came out with effort and gave it there all, but they almost lost to a veteran team that should have blown them out and probably would have if they had another stinker performance like the last couple games. I'm not sure what else you want from this team until Tambo acquires some talent this is probably the best you can expect to see from them.
Lucky win. Once in a long while everything goes right for the team and the other team is off. Oilers had almost no offense after the 1st goal and let 40 shots on goal.
Hall had a flukey shootout goal and that was the game.
No doubt they will revert back to their bad habits in the next game(s).
We won a game just like this against San Jose in 2008 when Roloson was having a resurgence. We hung on for dear life and won the shootout. I think that the score was the same and the shots were similar. Playoff push time!
In all seriousness... wow, the veterans are still MIA. It's amazing how incompetent they are on the offensive side of the puck.
I remember this game because we couldn't get a shot on net and the sharks were peppering Roloson but still kept it 0-0. We had one shot at the very end with hemsky flying down the middle i think....sniped it! Beauty Shot! I see a little of that Hemsky coming back right now.

Pretty sure that was the year San Jose opened the season with a new record in wins 25-3-2 or something like that. They were 42-9-9 at one point! I thought they were destined to win it all for sure then they lose in 6 games in the first round.
I remember that game too, how great the Sharks looked and thinking they looked like one of the most dangerous teams I've ever seen. Pretty sure they peppered Roli with almost (or over?) 50 shots but Brodziak scored the OT winner on the pp. Great game to watch, I miss exciting hockey.
Nice to get the win, but tough to get overly excited about it.
Outshot 45-18? Yeah the Sharks didn't get a lot of quality chances, but they dominated the puck all night and the Oilers offense is painfully inept right now. Dan Boyle had more shots tonight (9) than the Oilers did in any single period (5, 7, 4).
If the Sharks are playing their A-game this is a blowout. Luckily for us they didn't.
8 straight games now the Oilers have failed to register more than 2 goals. This team has had 13 straight periods registering fewer than 10 shots. 4 games and a period!
The pluses are obviously a win. Dubnyk was really solid. Eberle got another point and Hall/Gagner both scored in the shootout.

What do you mean we didn't have enough to complain about? The sharks dominated literally every facet of the game except goaltending, and they were playing their second string backup to save Niemi for the Flames.
Does it not bother you that the only time we can win is if we barely eek it out despite getting wrecked all night in zone time, puck possession, physicality, team play, all the while handling the puck like a grenade.
Hell, we didn't even create any offense. The goal we did score was a lucky bounce off of two shark defenders right on Eberle's stick.
Obviously its nice to get a win, but overall I saw a game in which we were outclassed and outcompeted just as if not harder than the last ten games or so. Just kind of makes me more annoyed. Yay Yakupov I guess? I dunno, moral victories just don't do it for me anymore.
On the scale of how well we played with 1 being totally lying down, 10 being absolute domination, and 6 being you average game, this ranks as maybe a 3-4 in which we somehow managed to win. Do you guys like paying to see professionals give you a three four? If this was a restaurant you'd come away thinking you might as well go get something microwaved out of plastic at Swiss Chalet.
