I thought this at first too, but when they showed it up close, you could see that the logo and captain's "C" are both on there.
Comment cheerfully withdrawn...it looked blank on that tiny streaming video. That would have been a pretty egregious mistake.
My overall thought was that it looked better than the model posted earlier and what I had in my head. I look forward to seeing it in person someday.
“The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile, but that it is indifferent. If we can come to terms with this indifference and accept the challenges of life within the boundaries of death, our existence as a species can have genuine meaning and fulfillment. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.” - Stanley Kubrick
When they first unveiled it I was like "Ewww.." but after looking at it for a few minutes it looks pretty good. I know the Cup Raising pose is probably the most iconic of Mario's career, but I'm glad they used a different one. Mainly because it's different than what most expected, and also like someone else mentioned, it doesn't resemble the Gretzky statue. I would've preferred the pose be of him beating Casey though.
Mario Lemieux was just as iconic for splitting through defenses as that Cup hoisting poise, which lets be honest as already been done. A lot! This is different and original! Kudos to the art direction on this piece.
Also, people will complain for the sake of complaining. Some people can never be pleased.
i've warmed up to it. i love the idea and the pomp n' circumstance surrounding the whole affair. i could do without that d-man's butt, but whatever - philly has a statute of a fictional athlete and the burgh has a statute of a legend.
p.s. the Rabbie Burns statute is still the best statute in all of pittsburgh and i'll fight anyone who says otherwise.
