Badgers lose, 4-3.

Earl's stats will be updated soon.

In OT, Earl made a tremendous move where he put the puck between his legs and almost tucked it in between the goalies pads for the win. The broadcasters were like "EARL.... OH MY..."

Do you guys think The Leafs will sign Earl in the offseason and let him play in the AHL next year?

He'll likely play his 4 years at Wisconsin, atleast 3 years.

I can't see it. I don't really think he's proven enough to get much of a crack at an AHL roster spot at this point in time, and beyond that I don't feel he's developed so far since his draft that he has nothing left to learn in the NCAA.

Everything I've heard indicates he'll almost assuredly play at least 3 years of Wisconsin, whether he'll stay for a 4'th year I don't know.

Beyond that I really don't see any reason for the Leafs to rush into signing him. They've got plenty of time before they lose his rights, and it's not like he's any NHL threat in the short term barring an unbelievable rookie camp.
Besids, the sooner the Leafs sign him to a contract the sooner he becomes eligible for waivers and ideally we'd neaturally desire to push that as far back as realistically possible.

I'd vote for another year of NCAA, and beyond that see how he's developed, what kind of numbers he's putting up in the NCAA and how he feels about continuing on for another year or turning Pro and tryng to make the jump to the AHL.

If he's going to be an NHL player, he probably won't even play in the AHL.

You think so? A lot of top NCAA prospects jump straight to the NHL.

If Earl plays another season or two in NCAA (and continues to get better), I don't see why he'd need a stop in the AHL.

AHL is a step above the NCAA. They would probably want to test him out, before they throw him to the wolves.

You never know, but it's safer to say he'll play atleast 1 year of professional hockey before going to the NHL. There are a lot of guys that go that route, Chris Higgins, Tyler Arnason, etc...

I'm not a fan of players jumping straight to the NHL without any AHL icetime unless they've been awfully impressive in training camp, and in the case of Europeans had a good year+ in a top league.

I'd like to see his game round out a lot more before I'd feel comfortable throwing him into an NHL lineup having never seen anything more then NCAA competition.

Well a year in the AHL wouldn't hurt.

But I think a good comparison for Earl could be Mike York. Somewhat similar styles and draft positions.

York jumped straight from the NCAA to the NHL at the age of 21 and scored 26 goals and 50 points in his rookie season.

Players skipping the AHL aren't uncommon at all.

On the Leafs roster last year, only six regulars spent significant time in the AHL in their early years. Tucker, Klee, Ponikarovsky, Domi, Fitzgerald and Marchment.

here we go again, impatient fans wanting to rush players.

as soon as a kid starts doing well at a low level, its bring him up now, he's amazing!!.

for every mike york, there's a hundred good ncaa scorers who don't make the nhl.

he'll make it when he makes it, if he makes it.

No one has said that we should bring him up right now. That's your imagination.

There are a lot of guys that went from top NCAA players to the AHL to prepare themselves for the NHL... it can really go either way.

We don't have any guys that play a similar game to Earl on our current roster.

But I see your point.

Personally, I get the vibe from him that Earl values his education and will spend his time in NCAA till he graduates.
