As much as the AL has improved over the winter, the Jays still have a very formidable line up. Not too many soft spots from 1 to 9, I think people forget this.

Escobar
Rasmus
Bautista
Lind
Arencibia
Lawrie
Johnson
Thames
Encarnacion

The roster is pretty young, but that leaves room for improvement from last year.

Now that the bullpen is much improved, the only real team weakness is the rotation. I think this will keep us out of the playoffs, unless AA likes what he sees at the half way point of the season. If he can pull the trigger on a mid season deal that brings us a bonafide #2, it would go a long way to completing this team.

They can also do both. Those guys I mentioned helping later in the year would benefit by the extra development time while we use our stronger pen at the start of the season, mid season when they have much more elevated trade value's AA would likely not hesitate to make a great value move like the Rasmus deal last year or Escobar the year before. Only difference is we would have pieces ready to fall in place this season to absorb a major bullpen loss that we did not have last year.

But if they're in the thick of things, I bet they keep em.

i think this will be a big year for the jays, no I'm not saying playoffs. I mean it in the way that if rasmus returns to form, as does lind. Morrow plays up to what we expect, it can mean for a big offseason next year. The jays were just banking on to many what ifs this year.

I guess I am in the camp that fears that Bautista will slip back to 20HR lol.

Forgot about Carreno, we might have a lot of competition in the BP.
Why?

What does this guy have to do to prove to you fans, let alone the American media, that he is a legit elite player?

Closer: Sergio Santos
8th Inning: Fransisco Cordero
7th Inning: Jason Frasor
Middle Reliever: Casey Janssen
Utility Reliever: Carlos Villanueva
Long Man: Jesse Litsch
Left Handed Specialist: Darren Oliver

AA took our biggest weakness and made it into perhaps one of our biggest strengths. Awesome work.

I would put Janssen in the 7th inning role over Frasor.

I fear that for everyone of my players, in any sport. The year Parise scored 40 goals, I was like, he'll never score it again, it was an anomaly. Thanks Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta.

So AA saved the club from spending 300M+ and there is still a collective complaint about how he's not doing enough to help the club? Wha...?? He has shored up the BP and that was one of few sore points on the club. He believes they have the bats to compete with any team in the league, it's keeping runs off the scoreboard thats the problem. Funny thing is, 3 of the 5 TO franchises have the same problem (Jays, Leafs and Raps) and the Argos and TFC just can't win.

Raps don't have that keep the points off the board problem anymore. They have a put points ON the board problem

Love the BP now! With the established arms we have now, and the young arms we have coming up we're in great shape there...

Do we lose a pick by signing Cordero now?

I don't think Cordero is a type A and even if he was, we wouldn't lose one. Can't anymore with the new CBA in place unless its on those big FA.

Just dont let that happen 2 times every 3 games otherwise your pen will be out of gas in 2 weeks.

Yeah...I just wasn't sure if he's still type-A or a modified type-A (where we wouldn't lose one, but the Reds still get one).

That stood out to me too. Throughout the course of the season from start to finish there's a great core of us. Well done!

Love the signing.

Perez seems like the odd man out, but I think he's out of options. Listch has options out. Might he start in AAA?

Cordero was a Type A before the rules changed. He was then 'adjusted' to Type B. Reds get compensated but the pick wont come from Jays.

Potentially top-5. Braves and Yankees have better pens. Probably 1-2 in baseball.

I dont really understand people saying stuff like god glad we didn't give him that deal. well guess what all big UFA's like Fielder get those types of contracts in the UFA market. so I assume then you guys never want to sign someone of the calibre of Fielder. some time you have to bite the bullet and take a bad long term contract to get a great player. sadly the jays will never do it, which is nothing new probably just go another 20 years without playoffs yay!

Brian Tallet? Or did we do that already? Maybe Valbuena or someone like that.
