Quite an albatross. Both Fielder and his contract.

But, this moves makes the Tigers a real good team. A 3-4 of Cabrera and Fielder....drool.

Uehara is better, but how is it his fault? he isn't a FA. Uehara would of made us have a legendary bullpen.

Also remember that we would've needed to trade assets for Uehara, and he looked very mediocre at times in TEX.

Yeah tbh I'd rather have Cordero for $$ only then have Uehara for the $$ + prospect or two.

If you see it like that, the difference is negligible.

I doubt it would have been both. It was one or the other IMO .

Pretty decent signing for the Jays.

This "Cordero" (if that IS his real name...) fellow is coming off a strong season.

I just hope we'll have save opportunities for him to pitch in. Our starting rotation is still looking pretty weak.

Who knows maybe next year Cinci wants to clear some payroll and AA just trades for him. But how can you say he'll likely get 7 years? No one has the slightest idea what he'll want. If he wants 20 million that's still 3+million less than Fielder. I'd be happy to sign Votto to a 5 yr deal for 100 million. Falls in line with what the Jays have said they are willing to do and they can throw in a couple of option years if they feel so inclined.
Just about every team in the league would want Votto on those terms

Chances of that happening? zero

If Votto hits the open market, you will have to go higher than five years to land him.

obviously, and who wouldn't? he is pretty athletic for a 1B and has amazing batting ability. That means 7 or 8 years, and with his pitch recognition and plate discipline, it isn't out of the question that he actually performs for length of that contract. I'm sure every jays fan would be dissapointed if he don't sign him if he makes it to fa. Not because we "have" to contend, but because were probably gonna need an elite bat, as bautista isn't getting any younger...

people need to realize that in order for us to make the playoffs in the east division were gonna need to have 2 premier hitters + a premier pitch(premier = top 10 in there position) at minimum so if were not willing to spend this type of money for a top 5 player we midaswell become the pittsburgh pirates. we have 1 of the 3 Fielder would have been #2 and all we would have been missing is that top Ace pitcher imo. but like I said in another 3 years when Batista starts declining we will be forced to then find 3 instead of 1 if we got fielder.
I'd have no problem being the Pirates. They won the WS what two years ago? Yeah I could get on board with that.

Really? thanks champ. The post I was responding to buddy said the jays would have to spend 20 million to get him. I said they would spend that no problem which is true IMO

Pirates last made the playoffs in 92 and last time they won the world series was in 79 your probably thinking of the Phillies

Edit: and that 92 team was the last time they even had a 500 team.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it rumored that Seattle insisted on Lawrie for Pineda? Can only imagine what they would want for Felix.

While our farm is insanely deep, I'm not sure we have that 'crown jewel' prospect to center a trade for him around --- minus Lawrie. They seemed more interested in quality than quantity. In Felix case, I'm sure it would take both. That being said all it takes is for one of our high-ceiling prospects to take that step this year and it could all change.

Do you really think the "fans" deserve a 20 million dollar player? You know this fan base with 8,102,163 people located in the Golden Horseshoe that has a hard time drawing 25,000 to a professional game of baseball. You do know other fan bases laugh at us, just like we laugh at Phoenix for not drawing fans.

Secondly, do you think with a half empty stadium any of these big names want to play in a dead market? Hell I'm in Ottawa and still get out to 6 or 7 games a year, it's about time some of the critics get off of their butts and show up to games or they have no right to complain.
