Do Enforcers Protect Stars?

This is the pro argument for having an enforcer in your lineup. Do you believe it?

With Flyers getting concussed left, right and center whether or not Shelley plays his 2 minutes, for me it is a big NO.

not anymore, no.

The trend we're leaning towards is having a tough team helps protect stars. Nobody is going to take a run at Tyler Seguin because they'll have to answer to Chara, McQuaid, Horton, Lucic, and Thornton...none of which are really heavyweights. All of those guys can actually play the game and are just tough as well.

Not 2 minute playing enforcers, but as Mansfield said, having tough players on the team protects star. As a sens fan, during the Winnipeg game when Karlsson got hit into the boards by Kane. The next shift of Kane's Ottawa had Neil, Carkner and Smith on the ice. Neil ended up... fighting.. Kane. Basically if you can have tough players that can play the game as a regular player that is what you need. You can no longer really have those 2 minute fighters anymore.

Do they protect stars? No.
Do they sell tickets? Yes.

No. Look at all the stars being knocked out.

Enforcers today are good for retaliation and momentum boosts, but prevention? There's too many cases of top players getting rocked to say that enforcers, as a whole, do the job as what it was originally perceived to be.

That's great but they're only a certain number of the players to go around and the Bruins seem to have half of them .

If they abolish the 3rd man in rule and bring legitimate "enforcement" back in the league that will change !The 70s Flyers had a few enforcers that would protect Clarke, Mccleish, etc ? Quite effectively with no helmets.

Not unless Matt Bradley counts as an enforcer.

I can't believe anybody could vote "yes" in the modern hockey world.

I know that people try to be creative on finding reasons to vote no, but I honestly don't know one enforcer who wouldn't go after a player taking a shot at a star on his team. Not one.

If the question is if enforcers keep hockey from happening (hits), no they don't.
