30 goals each year till he's like 32.

From 21 to 32, that's 11 years of 30 goals, with some years going a bit over.

With a few silver medals in the olympics on the way. Has one, could get one when he's 27, another medal possibly when he's 31, and could be brought along as a vet leader when 35.

If you compare his style to Selanne's, his style of play might allow him to have a long career, playing till he's 40, and who knows he could get some 30+ goal years between 32-40, thats another 8 yrs of scoring.

He could retire as one of the top scoring Americans.

-------

Also only 41 players have scored 500 goals, with iginla possible entering that group soon to make it 42.

If Kessel scores on avg 30 a year (guessing he goes over by a few goals each year to make up for injured years and older years) for 16 years, puts him around 500 goals.

Only other Americans to have done it are Modano, Tkachuk, Roenick and Mullen.

Back in '09 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=457924 Kessel was a top American player, but has seen his stock rise even higher since.

------

Also Sundin's 420 goals is with in his reach, he could be the all time Leafs goal leader.

If he scores 500 career goals then there is no keeping Kessel out of the HOF. Almost a third of the way there at the age of 24.

I agree. I always thought that 500 goals was the magic number to get in ... give or take 50 depending on other stats/achievements.

Ya Matt Moulson will hit 30 again this year. He's sitting at 22 right now.

Why there's a 21 year old on the team I'm sure I've read is a "great" player with his 7 career goals. Heck, he is close to averaging about 13 goals per year, so if that's great, then Phil won't even have to wait the 3 years to get inducted and they'll retire his number across the NHL.

Some parts of his style is similar to Selanne. But kessel is a bit of a pudgester pillsbury dough boy so I don't think his conditioning is similar to Selanne's

conditioning is the single most alterable characteristic an athlete can have.

you can't spend a summer working out and come to camp with Kessel's insane pure offensive talent.

Selanne scored like over 60 goals - i think he knows a bit about offense.
He also works out all summer which is part of the reason he has last into his 40s.

Kessel is a bit of dough boy - it will catch up to him.

where did I say anything about Selanee? I'm talking about in general.

and Selanee is in the last season of his career, how is that comparison relevant besides being an admirable person for Kessel to emulate?

Having 4 straight 30 goal years is impressive, but it certainly doesn't get you into the HHOF.

IMO as long as Kessel scores 500 goals, and wins at least one stanley-cup he'll get into the hall of fame eventually. He definetly has a decent chance; but scoring 4 straight 30 goal seasons will have no bearing on him making the hall unless he extends that streak to 8 + years.

I'm not sold that he'll automatically get in with 500, simply because he has a reputation as being a 1-dimensional player (obviously every leaf fan knows he's an excellent passer as well as scorer). I think he needs 500 as well as either a stanley cup or an olympic gold medal.

Kessel reminds me more of Wellwood at the buffet table then Selanne's and his conditioning.

LOL I dunno, around 40 games to score 4 goals, pretty tough feat for Kessel.

Bull. Of all the 40 goal scorers in the world, Phil Kessel is the only one who hasn't actually needed to score 40 to be called one.

With the way Tavares is playing this year, I could score a good chunk of goals playing with him.

Moulson's had 30 and 31 the past two years, plus 22 so far this year, so 83 goals in 2 and a half seasons.....ironic isn't that Tavares' career has spanned exactly two and a half seasons?

I'd love to see the % of Moulson's goals JT has been in on.

Also, Kessel HOF?

If he doesn't break his career high of 36 this year(other than injury), its a failed year for him

I definitely agree. I think Kessel could very well be one of the top American goal scorers of all time by the time his career is over.
The idea is not that far fetched... granted he doesn't regress significantly in the years to come

Also, TIL Mats Sundin has exactly 420 goals for the buds

It's a HUGE leap to think Kessel has any shot at the Hall of Fame. Milan Hejduk, who I consider to be one of the most underrated goalscorers of the past decade and a half, is approaching 1000 games and hasn't even hit 400 goals yet, probably won't even sniff the hall for a very long time if at all. Kessel would have to step his game way up if he wants to hit 500 and get consideration for the Hall of Fame.

I know its a pretty wishful thinking, but its not entirely crazy. Maybe I'm just more open than some of you to the possibility that our 24 year old goal scorer can keep up his stellar play; and consistently score an average of 30-35 goals a season for the next 10 or so years. I think its completely possible that he hits 450, if not 500 goals by the time his career is over and establishes himself as one of the top American goalscorers of all time. And believe me, I know this doesn't automatically grant you HOF status, but it would definitely warrant some sort of discussion if it happened.
