NHLers from NYC-Metro area

How many are there? Doesn't seem like there are many. Hockey has always been the 4th sport in this town.

Current guys from LI: Scuderi, Komisarek, Higgins, Matty Gilroy, Eric Nystrom

From NJ: Bobby Ryan and JVR

Connecticut: Shattenkirk and Max Pac

Don't think there are any current guys from the 5 boroughs.

Matt Gilroy, Christopher Higgins and John Van Riemsdyk immediately come to mind as far as active players.

Brian Mullen and Nicky Fotiu were both actually from New York itself. Mathieu Schneider was born in the area but I don't think he grew up entirely around here.

Brian Leetch grew up in Cheshire, CT, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was a fan of Boston teams, rather than NY teams, coming from that area -- does that exclude him? And, of course, Chris Drury is from Danbury.

These are the guys I can think of off the top of my head.

Forgot about Komisarek, Pacioretti and Nystrom. I didn't know Scuderi was from around here, or Shattenkirk.

Bobby Ryan is from south Jersey, so it's really more the Philadelphia area.

Yeah, JVR is from Middletown in north-centralish Jersey and grew up a Rangers fan. Ryan is from Cherry Hill right outside of Philly and grew up a Flyer fan.

If you said NHL draft busts from NYC, I would've told you Hugh Jessiman.

Nick was a Staten Island boy.

Both Joey and Brian Mullen grew up and lived a block from the old Garden on 49th street.

Also the Ferraro brothers were from Long Island

Can't believe I mentioned Brian and not Joe Mullen.

I grew up part my life in Bergen County, but as you say, Paul Mara moved to the Boston area very early in his life, I believe.
