La - tor

This was bandied about in another thread:

TOR:
Dustin Penner (4.25/1 year)

LA:
Clarke Macarthur (3.25/2 years)

Pros: Toronto gets the big forward that they want, and take a flyer on a former 30-goal scorer who looks like he needs a change of scenery.

LA gets a LW to replace Penner, gains a bit more cap flexibility, and MacArthur may fit in better in LA than Penner has. They also take on another year in the contract, but MacArthur can easily be dealt away for a mid-round pick/be used in a trade for a better winger.

Cons: Burke gets reunited with Penner, and during the off-season, Kevin Lowe signs him away from Toronto, causing Lowe-Burke Round II: Electric Boogaloo.

Rather let Penner go or re-sign him for much less than the 3.25 MaCarthur is due next season.

So a UFA winger who has done ****-all this year for Mac who has been alright this year and has 2 years left on his contract? Nah.

I'd be hesitant because MacArthur has next year as well.

Hell no from the Leafs. MacArthur obviously hasn't been as good this season as he was last year but he is still on pace for 20+ goals and is making less money than Penner.

He hasn't been as good as last year (well, the Kulemin-Grabovski-MacArthur line has disappointed, except for Grabovski). He's seen 4th-line duty occasionally over the last few games, seems to have lost his scoring touch a bit.

He's still a servicable player, just it seems Penner's upside is higher, and the Leafs are generally undersized up front (as evidenced by their struggles against Boston).

There's definitely Leafs fans who prefer MacArthur over a flyer on Penner.

I'd be hesitant, that cap space might be needed this summer.

Agree. Both players are drastically overpaid.

Not too shabby. Worst case Penner plays on the 4th line, which MacArthur is already doing and If it doesn't work out he can be on his merry way at season's end. Macarther will feed of the talent surrounding him and probably have a similar 2nd half as last year.

$3.25 mil/per is an aweful lot to pay a player of that caliber.

I wouldn't be all that opposed to this. The size would be great if we managed to make the playoffs, and hopefully Penner could get to a shade of what he used to be.

Toronto is in Canada, there's a reason why Penner only played with 1 Canadian NHL franchise. He's really not good at all. NO, you can keep Pancake, we like waffles out here.

dude, just admit you have no ****ing idea what youre talking about. he was coming off a season of 20 goals and 40 assists, hes still on pace for 20 goals this year.
3.25 is hardly that bad, and its only two years.
definitely no where near drastic.
