Patrick Marleau

is it me or does he seem to be flying under the radar every year.
I've looke up his career stats and it shows that he has never went under 40 total points besides his rookie year..
I know it's not much but for somebody not talked about as much he quietly has 52pts.

if he were to retire today as a shark, do they retire number 12?

I kind of hope they would retire it, whole career as a Shark being the guy with the records and always there getting points and as one article I read, being the glue guy.

Why did you respond to your own post? Quite confusing. Anyways, I'm sure they'll retire his number.

His number will be retired if they win a cup.. I'm not sure if they don't..

Yea he flies under the radar, when he's on, he's on...

But when he's not on, he just floats around the ice and gives no effort at all.. That's why he takes a lot of criticism

This is my personal and purely original opinion but he's a little too gutless.

I'm assuming you were just trying to get the ball rolling.

He's my favorite player, and has been since 2002 when I started watching the Sharks.

He's lazy at times, but he sure as hell ain't gutless. Taking on a seasoned fighter in Bieksa last WCF showed what he's about.

That and he's not nearly as lazy as people think he is. He's about as lazy as any other player because nobody goes all out all the time. People just criticize Marleau more because of how long he's been here for. He is one of the best two-way forwards in the league and certainly the best two-way left winger the past three years.

If he retires as a Shark today, he probably doesn't get the number up. He's not a hockey hall of famer right now...he may never be. But playing somewhere between 15 and 20 years on one team is a lot harder to ignore than 12 and retiring early.

If he completes his career as expected, I think the number will be retired.

Saying Marleau is soft is like saying Batman is soft.

He's an incredible player. He brings it on most nights, he has TONS of points in the playoffs.... He has tons of points during the regular. I'm embarrassed by the amount of sharks fans who call him out so regularly.

He has EASILY been the best shark in franchise history....

I think he has the 2nd or 3rd most goals in the past 3 seasons of ANYONE IN THE NHL....

And my god can he back check.

Every needs to get off his case.

If they don't retire his number I will never go to a sharks game again. Fact. I hope my kids see this post when they come into being.

He'd double his offense if he wasnt the laziest first line winger in the league.

I don't think you're educated enough about all the first line wingers in this league to make such a comment.

How did Cheechoo score 56 goals on Thornton's wing that one year?

Because Cheechoo worked his ass off all the time. Marleau should be putting up 50g/100pt seasons on Thornton's line with his talent but hasnt because he just doesnt put in the effort for it.

nah bro, marleau should score at least 100 goals a year.... He just doesn't want it....

How's your boy Jumbo doing this year? If you want to call someone out, why don't we look at Thornton...

18 points in the last month, when pretty much the entire roster is struggling? I'd take that any month of any year.

Joe.Thornton. You can make cases for Marleau, life time shark etc... But that bolded statement is ridiculous.

You realize JT lead the NHL in points for a decade right? SJ's financial situation changed drastically once JT got here. Hell, it might've been a coincidence, but Marleau's true take off coincided with JT's arrival. Before JT he was a 57pt player (IIRC?) at his best.

That's wonderful....

How about all the goals Marleau has been burying lately while the team has been slacking off?

Agree to disagree. Marleau means more to this organization than anyone. Night in and night out he brings it and we all know he'd be the first person to hoist the cup if we won, after Jumbo got it.

Jumbo only gets it because of his C, which Marleau shouldn't have been stripped of. It's not his fault Hiller stood on his head.

I'm not saying Marleau's been bad. But he definitely can be better.
