Greiss is fairly decent, it's the rest of the team that leaves him hanging most of the time

haha, holy crap.

He's one of the best true 'backup's' in the league in fact (not counting guys that should be starters).

He has a sub 2 GAA ffs, and a better SV% than Niemi.

Of course his stats are gonna be padded playing on a top-tier NHL squad. Toskala and Nabokov put up excellent stats when they were here, now look at them.

All goalies are a product of their team.

.919 sv% 2.38 GAA 1 SO

idk, seems fairly consistent with his stats when he was here. On one of the worst teams in the league.

Niemi plays behind the same team... Greiss has better stats...

Also, Nabby was just named one of the NHL players of the week i believe...

So Nabokov wasn't good, he was just on a good team? Even a great goalie can suffer behind an awful team.

Nabokov wasn't good? He has the best legs in the league, nobody redirects shots like him you're insane.

After the lockout, Nabokov never put up excellent numbers in the one stat goaltenders actually have full control over, SV%. At least not until his final season but the whole team was riding quite a bit of luck that regular season.

I never said or implied that. Nabokov was a fine goalie in his time here, but Ive heard a lot about how much he sucked in the KHL and earlier on this season, he's only begun to pick his play up recently.

Back track away, but the fact is you said "Greiss is the worst backup in the league" and that is certifiably absurd.

if he was so good, then why this they ship him to the minors when they picked up Boucher, then proceed to ship him to Sweden when he couldnt hack it there?

A well-reasoned and thought out reply.

Pretty sure the worst backup in the league wouldn't have a career .915 SV% or a .927 SV% in 2011-12.

The majority of that was to get him more playing time. Hard to develop without any playing time.

If Vokoun was so good, why was he a 9th round pick or whatever?

http://espn.go.com/nhl/player/gamelo.../thomas-greiss

look at the teams he's faced, with the exception of Pittsburgh, those arent exactly offensive juggernauts.

as for career numbers, 23 games is not a real big sample size, especially for someone who tends to only start against weak teams.

Exactly. They were development moves, not he-can't-hack-it moves.

Yah, he's a BACKUP. Most BACKUPS face lower competition. So now your saying he's the worst backup in the league, even though he has better stats than most backups in the league, because he faced lower competition, like most every other backup in the league.
