A Positive Article from Mark Spector on the Canucks

I have to ask... has HE Double Hockey Sticks frozen over???

A complimentary article from SportsNet columnist Mark Spector about YOUR VANCOUVER CANUCKS.

It is titled "A Quiet Confidence" in which he says the Canucks have changed their image and the the culture of distraction - the diving, the chirping, the biting - that had hitched itself to the Canucks ride last year during this season and that they exude a quiet confidence.

Mind you it seems to have escaped the notice of a number of posters at HFBoards.
Fast forward to the National Hockey League's all-star break, and we find a Canucks team that - give or take a one-day visit to Boston that seemed to last an entire week - has been quiet as a mouse this season.

When's the last time the highlight packages included any of those things that Henrik spoke of? The goalie controversy has fizzled to a realization that there are two fine netminders here, and for now, they're coexistence gives this team the best tandem in hockey.

Alex Burrows is silently stacking up another 30-goal, 50-point campaign, and we're not hearing any ref's stories that begin with, "The other night in Vancouver…"

"It's a quiet confidence," said defenceman Kevin Bieksa, before his Canucks outlasted a game Edmonton Oilers team 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday night at Rogers Arena.
...
This team was always confident, but after last year's run, somehow it seems that much more legit this time around.

Why?

"Because you don't go through an experience like that and not become better," Bieksa said. "We've been to the end; we know it's attainable; we know we're a good enough team. We know what it takes, but we still respect the process, and the other teams in this league."

But now they respect the Canucks. And if they don't, they'd better start.

Spector is one of the worst writers covering the Canucks. Even when he writes a complimentary piece, I still hate it.

Does he even cover the Canucks? I thought he was an Edmonton guy that just took the odd time out of his schedule to throw rocks at the Canucks.

You sure are using the word columnist rather liberally. I think he is more of a Damian Cox type guy who incites to get noticed.

I think it's a very good article, and It's nice that the sedins came out and admitted that some of the crap last year they did was wrong.

The general message I found very agreeable with. Most of the fans lost their heads like they tend to do at any sign of adversity and it was irritating to post here day-in, day-out.

I found the attitude of our self-entitled fans at that point in time to be more sickening than the actual article.

good article. good on hank for speaking up about the chirping/diving which has got to stop. if they are following the drw model. both teams are similar too. but the drw don't chirp as much and gets alot of respect from the zebras.

Alright everyone, we have many great mods on the main boards that deem what is appropriate and what is not. If you don't like a thread, just ignore it or report it. We don't need posters telling each other what is, or what isn't OK.

Spanks.

It's funny because a few weeks he was trashing the Canucks on Twitter, I basically called him unprofessional and told him that the only reason he has a job is because the more idiotic the things you say, the more people will listen, and asked him to deny to all his followers that he is not a total Canucks hater and biased. He then proceeded to tell me how he LOVED covering the Canucks and chatting with them on twitter before blocking me.

He gets paid to write. It's much easier to get views with negative articles. He saw there was nothing negative to write about the Canucks so he wrote a positive article.

I think he also wrote another nice article about the canucks about month ago. I was shocked since he usually spews a lot of diarrhea.

I personally believe he's twisted a lot of those quotes from Henrik into a story.
