Just like others have said, trading Carter before the deadline is highly unlikely. That pick could end up being #5 as easily as #18 right now. So if it ends up he gets traded and the team he's traded to drops into a top 5 pick does that mean Columbus stole the trade? It might end up that way in this example but going in the value was based on unknowns.
I agree, does that mean CBJ are looking for a Voracek type player and a 1st? Most of the CBJ fans are saying only for a Voracek/Coutourier type return which isn't exactly an unknown.

I still see it as a longshot that Carter is traded, even more of a longshot that it will be within the division, but you can add me to the list of Preds fans that would be ok with a trade like this.

The defenseman equivalent of Voracek perhaps.

Yea I can see why it could not go down. Carter will be traded though. IF he cant go to NSH, I see Carter + Calvert? + low pick? for JJ and Bernier.

If Carter is traded and a young goalie is coming back, Mason has to go too. There is no way you can keep him if you make a move for a starter.

Don't think LA wants to go the Richards AND Carter route...could be wrong though.

Would be surprised to see him come to the Leafs... Why?

1) Burke is stubborn
2) Burke is against front-loaded, long term contracts
3) Carter has a "mid-loaded", long term contract

I doubt any small market team trades for him before his NTC kicks in. There's always the chance he holds his new team hostage and demands out like he's doing in Columbus.

there's no one that's going to take his contract though. unfortunately for CBJ, they might have to either waive him or buy him out.

Yea its a definite concern but they almost won a cup together. Who knows, it could of been a number of things. They obviously like to party together

The current consensus (more or less) is "We need skill and goal scoring badly, so we'll take our chances."

I would think they'd rather take their chances on a mega contract for Parise this summer, rather than trying to re-unite beavis and butthead.

Not as of now. I think it's something that I would like the Leafs to look at if Grabovski is traded or wants to test free agency.

Yep, a good young player + 1st + goalie prospect seems to be a good deal...

for

Carter

I'm not a big fan of Carter's contract and normally I wouldn't give the following assets for him but I feel that acquiring a #1C is too hard/costly so Carter would be a great #2C (who plays like a #1C) for us. I feel like overpaying compared to other teams and this offer does it. Of course this offer is based off the fact that Carter's value isn't what it once was.

1) Burke has balls to make moves
2) Burke may find it too costy to find a #1C elsewhere. Carter makes sense at a good cap hit for now and the salary cap is more likely to up than down over the years.
3) Would be a good acquisition especially if Grabovski leaves (which is speculation but is also a genuine concern to our top 6 centre depth)

Absolutely, but seriously, what do you think our chances are of buying a top player THIS summer? Chara, Gaborik, Hossa, Kovalchuk, and Richards have all come and gone and the Kings have been plan B each and every time. Free agency is a pipe dream. Trades are our best hope for improvement, and Carter's situation presents a unique opportunity.

As for the Carter/Richards connection, we don't care all that much for reasons I'm too lazy to articulate.

I have no idea. Someone in the same nominal age range but with 1st pairing potential. (Yes, I know this type doesn't grow on trees, and that teams are expected to develop them.)

Normally I don't think GM's care too much if they deal a player within their own division, but when it's an elite player signed for 10+ years, I think it definitely matters.

IMO, there's little chance Columbus deals Carter to another West team, let alone one within their own division. We're talking about a player who could help your division rival take points away from you and win the division for the next ten years. There's a reason Philly dealt both Carter and Richards to Western conference teams.

To CLB: Anton Babchuk, 1st in 2012, 3rd in 2013, Greg Nemisz

To CGY: Jeff Carter, 2nd in 2012

This 1st in 2012 would undoubtedly be higher than any of the other 1st in 2012 being offered - as it'll be quite difficult for the Flames to make up the ground and actually take a playoff spot this season.

No value here. I'd rather take the obsessive leaf fan proposal.

Would Jeff Carter even want to play in Ontario? I remember with the Kaberle rumored trade reading he'd hate to play in his home area.

Most Leaf fans on here want nothing to do with Carter.

Most would prefer to re-sign Grabovski at 4-4.5.

As do I.

Only way I'd entertain the thought of trading for Carter is if Grabovski is traded or plans to test free agency.
