When the best player in the deal is Mike Komisarek, I doubt PG would 'piss his pants in excitement'. In any case, you're right, I'd take Komi I guess.

Make the 7th a 1st and you have a deal.

Seriously, the difference between these two players is nowhere near a 7th.

Komisarek is playing key minutes for us right now, and Gomez needs to be in the AHL. Factor in his much larger cap hit and it is a no chance in hell deal...

I think the difference is closer to a 7th than it is it to a potential lottery pick.

Given the difference in cap hits between Komi (4.5) and Gomez (7.3) for the next two years Toronto is losing 2.8 million in cap space.

Since Komi is playing solid minutes on the second pairing for us and Gomez is an AHL scrub we would also have to call up a D to fill the void (say another couple million in cap hit for that move)

With the two years left on that deal, we are essentially looking at eating up around $5m of our cap for the next two years to acquire Montreal's 7th rounder? How does that make sense in any way shape or form for us?

I never said the leafs would do it or it makes sense. I only argued that a 7th is closer than a top 5 pick. No brainer no?

Habs can easily waive Gomez to the AHL. Can the Leafs do that with Komi given that he has a NMC?

and that's the only reason why they would do this deal. to free up the cap space to sign or resign someone they wanted in the offseason. that NMC effectively blocks them from waiving Komi.

I don't see why else they would ever do it.

It also blocks them from trading him...

We'll take the hockey sticks. Retail or Pro Stock? And PK uses really big curves and really long sticks for his really big long windups.

We can bury Gomez and his cap hit in the minors.
With Komi we would be stuck wtih him and his cap hit for 2 yrs.
The Leafs are forced to keep Komi and cap hit for the next 2 yrs.
We have the option with Gomez.
As i said no Komi for us.
