Grenier is doing very well on Nathan MacKinnon's line, as MacKinnon is feeding him ridiculous passes thru traffic, but he will need upwards of 4 years of development before he gets his shot in the NHL. His skating needs work and he needs to get used to his size (a growth spurt last season)

I would flip out in happyness if we got either Reaves or Clifford for Moen! Both defend their teammates, play the game HARD and hit whoever is in front of them.

Injuries on defence basically flipped the serious in Boston's favor, specifically to Hamhuis, then they couldn't score on the power play, and Boston's scoring depth took over. If they think Travis Moen will rectify any of those major reasons why they lost, then PG should take full advantage of them.

Had Moen been there to ragdoll Thornton they may have won!
I think that Moen has been perceived as soft since coming to Mtl is because we have lacked team toughness and Moen shouldn't be "the guy"
We can't be expecting him to face off against Lucic and Thorton all alone by himself
As our line up gets bigger and fills out I find that Moen fills a vital place.
I love the Idea of trade and sign as UFA's (AK & Moen) however unlikely that might be.

Keith Tkachuk was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers for Glen Metropolit, a 1st round pick in 2007, a 3rd round pick in 2007 and a 2nd round pick in 2008.
Not that he isn't a solid role player. But he IS a role player. Let's not go crazy.

I dont know if you were expecting todd ewen or something, but he was never an all out enforcer. He's been a versatile guy for montreal who gives an honest effort, kills penalties, and takes the body. He's a guy they have used from line 1 to line 4, depending upon what they needed.
Maybe your expectations of what you were getting were out of whack.

And how long would it take to replace Price? A first rounder wouldn't do it. I might settle for no fewer than three first rounders, all in the top 10. That means the team acquiring Price would have to do some expensive shopping from nonplayoff teams. Hmm, that sounds as though Price will be staying.

I don't know where people got the idea that Travis Moen has somehow fought less, or doesn't bring as much toughness to Montreal as he brought in his other stops. I don't know what they were expecting.
Habs will win 8 of their next 10 games and they gonna start thinking about making the playoffs and won't trade anyone. They eventually won't be able to re-sign any of their potential UFA in July.
That would be a total and irresponsible lack of vision from management ; so it may very well happen *sigh*
If our pending UFAs have as much value as people around here seem to think they have, then I say trade them all.
If we want to re-sign AK or Moen for a reasonnable price, fine too ; but it has to be signed and delivered by feb 27th. If any UFA are still with us in March in hope of a miraculous playoffs push and then walk for free (ala Souray), it will be an awful fail from PG
edit : and BTW, I don't think we should overpay (money or term) to keep Moen which he will prob ask for cause he's on pace for a career year. Let's not go crazy : he's a 15-20 pts winger who's apt on the PK and somewhat physical. He's turning 30 soon and those physical players rarely age well. A 2nd + b prospect ? Do it !
WHY would you trade Moen? Dammit. All this crap about him being so easy to replace... the same way Metropolit was? Exactly. If you want to build a hard working, big team... keep.. MOEN! Hot damn. The ONLY way I would move him would be for a 1st rounder.

I don't know, Blunden has looked really good with that line also.
You will never get a 1st round draft pick for anyone for Moen and/or Gill, remember, Gill was traded for a 7th round draft pick from Toronto to Pittsburgh and Moen is young but this is a contract year and he is playing above average.
If we get a prospect and 2nd round pick for both, I am happy.

But let's face it, he was used on different lines because he was with the Habs, a highly defensive-styled team. He never did that anywhere else. Secondly a team that lacked size on the first two lines so he filled that spot.
It says more about the team than what he was as a player.

In assessing Moen, dont look at him as a 15 goal guy, but a big, tough, physical player, who puts in an honest effort and who maybe can get 8-10 goals on average per season. Such a player isnt that easy to replace and thats exactly why it looks like there would be a few teams interested in him. So is he worth $2M - $2.5 per year to the Habs over 3-4 years, or are the assets you get for him ie 2nd rounder, worth more ? Obviously if PG wants him on the team but fails to sign him over the next couple of weeks, then you have to trade him. So my question is what would you do, sign him for say $6M-$6.6M over 3, or trade him ?
