Sharks trade Sean Sullivan to Panthers for Tim Kennedy

http://panthers.nhl.com/club/news.ht...id=DL|FLA|home

Florida Panthers Executive Vice-President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that Florida has acquired D Sean Sullivan from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for C Tim Kennedy.

(I actually have been a fan of Kennedy since he was at Michigan St.)

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=73802

....I think his top end is the AHL. Hope I'm wrong, thought he could be an NHL'er, but other than his 1st year in Buffalo he hasn't done anything

So it looks like he had a decent year in Buffalo back in 09-10 but then all hell went loose with contract problems and being waived. If Clowe and Havlat aren't back after the allstar break he could be useful as a fill in... but this is really just to do with the glut of defencemen down in the AHL right?

LOL probably not but losing Sullivan does hurt. He's a big leader, vocal, etc on this team and is a big part of Worcester's excellent chemistry this year. So losing Sullivan hurts big time.

On the flip side, we need offense desperately. I think at this point we're thinking "OK... but - he better produce..."

Believe it or not, this is probably one of the biggest in-season moves made for Worcester, if not the biggest.

Id assume so. Sullivan is never gonna be an NHL caliber dman. Might as well let Doherty, Petrecki, Acoltase, Irwin, get more ice.

I'm pretty sure this is a Worcester move, and depth. Good move, I bet it helps Worcester out a ton.

I was getting rather concerned about the depth in Worcester. It seems like SJ just kept taking forwards and never replacing them (quality-wise at least). I hope Kennedy proves to help the scoring. Scary when McCarthy is a leader in that category

This is really going to sting if Kennedy doesn't produce. Sullivan is not only a great leader on and off the ice, but he's 4th in points. I guess this is kind of the move we've been asking for though...

Kennedy put up 26 points for Buffalo... that's more than Taco Torrey ever has.

Ugh, don't like this trade. Regressed every year he's been pro since making the NHL and is a very poor man's Vesce. I feel like there were plenty of better options out there.

Small. Fast. Doesn't like contact. Not good in his own end. Great hands. Scored big goals for Michigan St when they won it all and assisted on the championship goal.

Listed at 5'10''. Generously.

He regressed because of a contract issue. Buffalo buried him in the minors to avoid paying him.

But you're right, his play hasn't forced anyone to play him

I don't see how this is a bad thing. We needed scoring in Worcester, we traded a 27 year old 'non-prospect' defensemen for exactly that. I'm pretty confident Kennedy is more talented offensively than anyone we have in Worcester right now (especially with Ferriero stuck in the NHL).

Options for San Jose or Worcester?

It sucks that Sullivan's been traded, he brought a lot to the team, but it also sucks that the WorSharks had to play d-men at forward on a regular basis. Moving a d-man for a forward was kind of a necessary move.

Hopefully Kennedy helps with the scoring woes in Worcester.

Good AHL depth trade, also possibility of 4th line spare part for NHL if injuries require it. He definitely got a raw deal with the Sabes (his hometown team...ouch...), but after getting jacked he hasn't proven that he definitely should be in the NHL. Still, I feel for this guy who didn't play his way off an NHL roster. The Sabes just wanted to dump him for cap reasons. It's not always easy in such a situation to just go back to the A and kill it there.

Unfortunately, also when you are considered under-sized you get looked down upon by NHL teams. Just ask Kyle Wellwood.
