Leafs chasing Clowe?

The Leafs would have to really offer something good and maybe also take Taco Torrey. We would need two forwards in return. Not sure how it would break down. Any thoughts?

Per Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun. Leafs inquiring about Clowe, whom they highly covet.

Sharks are looking to add to their top 6 right now, not deplete it even further.

I'd take anything Garrioch says with a grain of salt.

Read the clip from the Sun and was kind of surprised. Had not seen anything else anywhere.

I read it and its more speculation on his part than anything. Clowe has long been rumored to be of interest to the Leafs.

But Toronto doesn't have much to offer the Sharks that they need.

The Sharks probably highly covet Malkin, doesn't mean a trade for him is realistic.

I'll just say this - everyone is available for the right price. In Clowe's case I doubt Burke would be willing to make an offer that would wow DW.

But if it was a massive overpayment - id be fine with it - ONLY if DW had a read on another player(s) that he could get for better value.

I love Clowe but he has underperformed this year. If he's on a slide his value won't ever be higher...

Just something to think about, but I'm not advocating for it FYI.

I doubt DW would be interested.

Torrey Mitchell for Kessel straight up?

Leaf's wouldn't be my first choice of trading partners for Clowe, but I'd consider:

Kulemin
Kadri
Ross (or similar prospect)
1st

If Clowe goes, the team is gonna tank so hard without him pushing the rest of the team. He's the swiss army knife of the Sharks. I don't see Toronto having anything that would make up for his loss

I think it's hard to accurately gauge who really does the pushing from the outside, regardless of what you "see." Someone may very well step up in Clowe's place and for the better should he be moved. Hopefully those actually making decisions for the Sharks understand the dynamics well enough not to move a true unmovable player.

As far as Toronto's interest goes, it would require a gross over payment. Not sure they have expendable horses to get Clowe. I'd rather use Clowe and add to get a bigger piece, than cash him out.

Is there any player in the league that doesn't get linked with Toronto according to Toronto media?

Pollak said it much more eloquently, but essentially:

All of this is total bullcrap.

I don't hate the idea of trading Clowe as much as I absolutely loathe the idea of trading a guy like Pavelski, Couture or Vlasic but the Leafs just have nothing of value to offer. This is probably BS anyway.

Agreed. I can't see DW shipping him out anyway. He is a big piece of our offense, even if his game has been less productive this season.

We trade Clowe, we lose so much of a physical presence. We trade him, we better be getting a player of similar playstyle in return.

More precisely....

PollakOnSharks 10:17am via Web #Sjshark source advises "zero chance" Ryane Clowe is available before trade deadline no matter what appeared in today's Ottawa Sun.

If DW trades Clowe he better be ready for the pitchforks.

Garrioch has no credibility whatsoever.
