Pit - mtl

These moves to be done before or near to the trade deadline.

Travis Moen
Andrei Kostitsyn

Eric Tangradi
Matt Niskanen
2012 2nd Round Pick

I get the inkling that there may be something with the cap that would stop this from happening? I.e we'd be over it? Would we? Not entirely sure how it's worked out at this moment with all our LTIR space.

Pass from Montreal. Not really high on Tangradi and we have a surplus of NHL defensemen, especially those that have similar styles to Niskanen (ex. Diaz, Campoli).

I like the peices heading the Pens way, but not at the cost of having Lovejoy play bottom pairing minutes

The only piece of real interest going to Montreal is the 2nd rounder. Remove both Pitt roster players and Kostitsyn from Montreal and I'd pull the trigger.

I like Travis Moen, would love to have him on the roster, but not at a 2nd rounder. I think a bottom 6 forward isn't worth spending more than a 3rd. Our PK isn't exactly bad and we have bottom 6 depth (although Asham is out) so getting into a bidding war for him with teams like Vancouver doesn't make any sense.

As for the overall deal, I'd do it from a Penguins perspective if Gill comes back in the deal for a 4th as mentioned on the Penguins board. Can't see moving Niisk without getting another dman back at this point.

I think I would probably have a similar thought process if roles were reversed here, but I really think a GM somewhere in this League would be willing to slightly overpay for Moen and/or Gill. That GM probably won't be Shero.

While 2nd rounders for each of Moen and Gill might be overpayment, Moen for a late 3rd and Gill for a late 4th is definite underpayment in my opinion.

Tangradi is exactly the type of player where you'll see huge gaps in terms of fan evaluation, because it isn't exactly clear where his ceiling resides. I just happen to be on the lower spectrum of that gap. I'm much more enticed by a 2nd rounder in a very deep draft.

So you take a 20 goal scorer and trade him for an unproven prospect. I understand we need to retool but AK should stay with the team. Especially now that he said that he would take less money.

Pens pass. We're full of bottom 6 players. Not really looking to move Niskanen, and him and a 2nd are too much for AK.

Oh and we don't really need help on the PK. We're 4th in the league (.1% behind 3rd). I like Moen, but unless he's cheap (and he won't be) I don't see him suiting up for the Pens anytime soon.

I disagree on both counts. Moen would be redundant on our roster. As I mentioned a couple of times on these boards, I wouldn't touch Gill with a 10 ft. pole. If Niskanen goes the other way we're downgrading big time at ES defense and in the transition game, and we don't need Gill on the PK.

That said, I'd like something centered around AK if we could fit him in long-term in our cap structure (i.e. after Neal and then Staal re-signing). The problem is that the Habs like him too, and if he stays around the same salary or even at 3.5M, that's pretty much what he's worth.

Pens have no need for Moen and a need for Niskanen.

AK is no where near worth a first. So those calling for a first, not a chance

And why would he not be worth that much ? He is 20 goal scorer and has a good cap hit.

So AK for Tangradi and a potential 85-90th pick? I'll just politely decline.

Thats the reason why the Habs decline. Tangs drafted in 2007-now 22 and still can't cut it . Bust in a big way. I wouldn't deal Kost alone for that package.
If we deal Kost we should at least try to get some talant instead of a couple of scrubs.

Hes on pace for like 20 this year and going to be UFA. Just dont see him being worth a first. You move a first for a top player or at least someone who wont leave come July.

well, if you want a guy who scores 20 on the 3rd line and nearly no PP time you need to pay

that's fine. But you do agree that if he is moved Montreal wouldn't be out of line to ask for a 1st.

No not really. While I think hes a good player, his pending UFA status takes him down to a 2nd rounder in my mind. I think if he had 1-2 years left on his deal then he would be worth a first since your getting more back for a very valuable first round pick this year.

Tangradi is young but has been mishandled. He had good potential, but he's shown none. Not sure there's a deal to be done here.
