LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Date H/A Result
10/13/04 Away 6-3 win over Wilkes-Barre (Pit)

The AHL opened their 69th year of existence with this game, while the
Moose commenced their 11th (9th in Winnipeg). Things got off to a slow
start for the Moose, as they fell behind by scores of 2-0 and 3-2. Alex
Auld was pulled in favour of Wade Flaherty early in the second, and the
team found their niche right after that. Jason King scored his second
of many goals this week to tie the game 3-3. From there it was the
Jimmy Roy show, as he blasted home two goals on Andy Chiodo to put the
Moose ahead for good. Peter Sarno added an insurance marker to seals
the baby Pens' fate.

Wade Flaherty stopped all 15 shots in relief in the same arena he
helped Milwaukee clinch their Calder Cup final win late last spring.
Both Jason King and Jimmy Roy finished the night with two goals and one
assist. Peter Sarno (1-1-2) and Josh Green (0-2-2) both finished with
multiple point nights. On the down side for the Moose, Nathan Smith
went down with an abdominal injury that kept him out of the lineup for
the rest of the week.

Date H/A Result
10/15/04 Away 7-2 win over Rochester (Buf)

It was a case of deja va for the Moose, as they fell behind the
Rochester Americans 1-0 and 2-1 in the first period, mostly due to
Manitoba's lack of discipline. Head coach Randy Carlyle advised the
team to clean up their act during the first intermission, and the team
listened to his words. The more disciplined version of the Moose took
to the ice in the second, and ended up reeling off five straight goals
on Rochester goaltenders Ryan Miller and Tom Askey.

Lee Goren, after having a relatively lacklustre performance in the
season-opener, scored Manitoba's first hat-trick of the season. Goren
(3-1-4), Jeff Heerema (0-4-4), Ryan Kesler (1-2-3), Kirill Koltsov
(1-2-3), and Peter Sarno (1-1-2) all had multiple point nights. Goren,
Heerema, Kesler, Koltsov, and Nolan Baumgartner all finished the night
with +4 ratings.

Date H/A Result
10/16/04 Away 6-4 win over Cleveland (SJ)

Can't blame them for being consistent. The Moose fell behind for the
third game in a row at the third home-opener they've attended, but
killed their opponent with a steady diet of goals. Jason King put up
Manitoba's second straight hat-trick (Tyler Bouck had the team's only
hat-trick last season), while playmaker Peter Sarno added three assists
for a 6-4 victory over the Barons.

The Moose fell behind 1-0 halfway through the first, on a goal by
Barons forward Marcel Goc. Without fail, the Moose went on a four-goal
tear--including King's three goals (two on the power play), and Ryan
Kesler's penalty shot--to put the home team in a hole. The Moose kept
throwing dirt on that hole, but the Barons didn't go down without
scoring two more goals.

With the win, the Moose extended their win streak to three games. The
last time that happened at the beginning of a season was 2002-03. In a
strange twist of fate, the three-game win streak ties their longest
streak from last season. In addition to these pluses, defenceman
Johnathan Aitken came back from his eye injury to make his Moose debut.

Excelent to see Kesler putting up some numbers.

I think the vets Sarno and Goren will have a strong impact on the younger players, finally some vets with offensive touch.

Man, 3 games back-to-back-to-back to start the season is a tough way to start.

Agreed.

I also like big, versatile Josh Green.

Heerema was also a good pick up. He has scored at every level and doesn't want to be the bust he's been labeled so far.

I hope Morrison has a good year. He has good attributes but can't put it together. In the paper I read an article where he claimed he would probably score 25-30 goals this year as he scored at that pace in the 2nd half of last year.

Can't wait to get out to a game. Maybe I should drop a few classes?
