Look I think that the Beatles were spectacular when they were actually together. But they aren't relevant anymore. They did do alot for the music industry and were the icon of their generation but they are still over rated
Beatles overrated? They are one of the most important, if not the most important band ever.
But you're a kid. You will get it eventually. Most do.
i have no idea how anyone can listen to springsteen for more than like 5 min a week
My first show was on the River Tour. Shows are fantastic....that is for sure. But a lot of bands have great live shows. If you are a fan of a band you dig the music. He has been around 40 years so it is not as 'hard' as stuff now. Then, I cannot listen to much of anyone for long periods. Saw U2 on the War tour for my first show of theirs. Clash on Combat Rock. PJ/Pumpkins/Peppers in a 3k seat theatre. Nirvana and others too. But who now? I mean...who out there is really worth a **** enough to last 15 years let alone 40? I don't see it/hear it and I am looking for something. Help me out.
I'm with you swanny. I find myself getting into older bands I didn't used to listen to rather than finding something new and current because it isn't there.
Grunge is more of a genre than a label. When you highlight the major grunge bands, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, they all have very distinct and different sounds.
Yeah, can't say I know everything about these groups since I am a little younger, but I really do enjoy the Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana tunes I am familiar with.
grunge is nothing like punk rock...if you don't like grunge then **** you.
I have a differing opinion on music than you do so **** you.
I love nirvana, soundgarden, all that ****. And grunge falls under alternative but it is a subgenre. Get this. Alternative music is targeted towards depressed suicidal ****ers like me. The lyrics are relatable (at times, oh Kurt) and the melodies are unique and vary more than in pop.
Also there is gonna be called a show called smells like teen spirit about nirvana. It's gonna be ****. Kurt cobains probably crying up in heaven

Well, let me start by saying that I don't really believe in the "grunge" moniker nor do I believe "punk" rock carries any more anti-establishment virility than rock-n-roll did in it's inception.
BUT, to say that a lot of "grunge" wasn't straight up "punk" is a bit off. All the seattle bands in the 80's were considered nothing more than local "punk" groups until the **** exploded, even by the band members themselves. Listen to Nirvana's first couple albums "Bleach" and "Incesticide" or Soundgarden's first three albums, very raw and often very uptempo. Bleach is, lyrically and instrumentally, WAY more subversive and raw than the majority of "punk" music, the best part is it lacks that awful phony wannabee British singing ****. (green day)
I still these cheesy sub-genres are for witless critics looking to complicate the simple fact that it's just rock music because they need to seem relevant somehow. Playing with different tempos, changing lyrics, and changing philosophy doesn't mean it's some radical move, same dinner, different package.

Agreed, grunge is not like punk with the gimmics, the message. Yeah, some people will make a connection to generation X in the early 90's and nihilism. That's a crock of ****. It's just a musical genre, different bands took it to different places.

Maybe. When I think of 80's punk, I think more about bands like Suicidal Tendencies.
