When has Slats ever moved a piece of the core for a big name? As far as I recall, all of the big names he brought in were at the expense of picks and spare parts.

If I'm Sather, I'm not giving up a single player off this roster, Kreider, Miller, Erixon, McIlrath, or a 1st rounder. Next level prospects and picks, that's it.

This is no time for our eyes to be bigger than our stomachs.

just not sure how that works will all the C's already on the team.

If they are ok with moving Stepan to LW but I doubt it since he's done so well again at C

So I say no , plus it would cost Anisimov I believe

Visnovsky is interesting but its a big cap hit and it would cost Sauer for sure. Plus Wolski has to go back the other way for salary

part of me says it has to happen eventually. One of the Dmen we like so much will be dealt eventually with Erixon and McIlrath knocking on the door shortly

Then you're pretty much resigned to the fact we're going to battle with what we've got, because we're not getting really anything of worth without giving any of that up.

Which is fine....but if Im Sather, I certainly hope hes not ruling that all out right off the bat.

I firmly believe Sather will add at the deadline, but it will not be for anyone that costs any higher than a 2nd rounder. It's too early in the Rangers time of contention to be giving away all of their major assets for a shot at The Cup. Moen/Pahlsson/Gaustad as a depth/3rd line forward and maybe a depth defenseman who can play on the bottom pairing if need be but if they feel Eminger and Sauer will be back by the time the playoffs roll around, they may feel they don't need one.

I really like how the same people who think WW is crap and not worth a roster spot on our team think that he can be added to a trade for a "legit" scoring threat like Carter, Ryan, etc... If he has no value to the Rangers, then his value around the league is similar. If he has value in a trade, then he could play a role on this team too.

in a heartbeat....you'd be a moron not to do that trade in a heartbeat.

Anismov isn't very good (as I've said for years), Sauer is replaceable, Wolski sucks, and Thomas, who...knows, but he's small..the odds are stacked against him.

This is a no-brainer, but I doubt Anaheim would move him.

Pahlsson would be worth it just for face-offs, alone (assuming he's still good at them)

My feeling is that there will significant disappointment around here post dead line.

I don't see a deal happening. I could be wrong of course but I don't see it.

I guarantee a deal will happen its just a matter of how big

Sather has made deals with the Yotes and Ducks in the past and both are likely selling......maybe Whitney or someone people dont love like Blake but something will get done.............maybe before the deadline day but that counts to me

Agreed.

I'm not saying we couldn't upgrade. But doing something to disrupt chemistry or if the deal isn't right... it could be devastating.

That's the fine line I guess. Doing nothing and falling flat could be just as devastating.

Gotta wonder what the real asking price for Bobby Rya was if...IF that Ana/Van rumor is true?

I still have my fingers crossed for Bobby Ryan.

Would anyone do the following deal for Ryan?

Anisimov/Hagelin/2012 1st rounder?
No, but I would do Girardi + Anisimov + Christian Thomas to Ducks
for
Corey Perry.

Main value is in D, but Anisimov is a good fit there, and if they decide to jettison Ryan, Thomas would be a nice prospect.

Prefer Perry to Ryan.

While losing Girardi hurts, we have fresh Staal and recovering Sauer, etc, with our other mainstays (MDZ, Erixon) and committee (Stalman, Eminger, etc.) we should be able to get by and that would be a big boost offensively.

How long is Perry before his contract is up? Year after next-ish, right? Girardi, AA, etc., not locked to long term deals....

why/why not?

That would be devastating for this season only though.

To be clear I'm not advocating doing nothing. I'd like an upgrade on LW. I don't want to mortgage the future, or do somthing to significantly disrupt chemistry (something I feel is this team's strongest component).

I just want the deal to be "right"

Not something we all say "Ohhhhhh... uhhhhhh... hmmmmmmmmmm" about

Jason Blake has 4g and 4a in 14gp this season. Since he has returned the Ducks have been playing MUCH better. If he can stay healthy, he could be a decent addition depending on the price.

Brendan Morrow would be fantastic for a playoff run. I think it would be amazing if we could get him without losing anyone off our roster and protecting Kreider, Miller, Erixon and McIlrath. This team is built for the next 3-5 yrs. A 1st rounder will take at least 3 yrs to make an impact. I just think its a small price to pay to try and win now. Morrow's signed for another yr. He'd fit in perfectly. a 1st and some 2nd tier prospects should get it done for sure...
