Kreider isn't going anywhere. He can easily be a Mario Lemieux type of player.

Just because Staal hasn't been a factor in the teams success this season doesn't mean he won't be an integral part in the playoffs this season and for the next 5+ years.

He played his first game a month ago, this is almost still pre-season for him. Just because he is not the flavor of the month doesn't mean he's expendable.

Kreider is the next Joe Malone. Don't slight him by comparing him to the big baby himself.

Maybe a wee bit of an exaggeration?

Terrible comparison...

Kreider is a LW, Lemieux played C.

If Kreider doesn't break Teemu's rookie goals record I'd trade him before he loses value

Kreider goes to the bathroom during intermission and the goal horn goes on as soon as the stream hits the urinal. Comes out and the Rangers have more points on the board.

The only productive thing this thread does is make me really glad no one here runs the team.

He has been quite inconsistent - to say the least - since he "broke up" (got dumped). Agreed. Couln´t he hook up with someone in Turk & Caicos during the break & get his game back? He looked terrible tonight. Again. This does NOT LOOK GOOD...

Not at all sure what you are trying say here, but I really think The Rangers being in 1st place cannot be accredited to paying a player $12 M this year to the performance he has put up on the ice so far. His presence on the roster does have an intimidating factor, yes, but so far the actual playing on the ice by Richards has not imo been a main contributing reason for the teams success. So far I might add. If you think Richards play has been the contributing factor to this - fine. Let us agree to disagree. You have to realize Brad Richards is The Highest paid player in the league this year, he is presently #83 in the league in scored points, he is one of only 3 regulars on the team with a minus rating (Staal & Fedotenko being the others). His production so far is on track for being his career lowest in PPG in his entire career:
Year Team Games Goals Assists Points Plus/minus PM PPG
2000-2001 LIGHTNING 82 21 41 62 -10 14 0,76
2001-2002 LIGHTNING 82 20 42 62 -18 13 0,76
2002-2003 LIGHTNING 80 17 57 74 3 24 0,93
2003-2004 LIGHTNING 82 26 53 79 14 12 0,96
2005-2006 LIGHTNING 82 23 68 91 0 32 1,11
2006-2007 LIGHTNING 82 25 45 70 -19 23 0,85
2007-2008 LIGHTNING 62 18 33 51 -25 15 0,82
2007-2008 STARS 12 2 9 11 -2 0 0,92
2008-2009 STARS 56 16 32 48 -4 6 0,86
2009-2010 STARS 80 24 67 91 -12 14 1,14
2010-2011 STARS 72 28 49 77 1 24 1,07
2011-2012 RANGERS 48 16 17 33 -2 12 0,69

TOTAL NHL 820 236 513 749 -74 189 0,91

I agree that at times we see brilliant flashes, as in the clutch GW goals he has produced, but the overall consistency is not there. He knows it, Torts knows it, basically everybody watching the games can see it.

I hardly said it was The End of the World. I said he was terrible again tonight. Was he not? Missed 2 clear breakaways (PS was one - he is 0/7 on them this year so far which is by far worst stats in career), had lots of giveaways, was the "leader" on the abysmal PP which was one of the things he was expected to contribute in fixing. One one hand - the grinding play that Cally & Dubinsky provide is not really a Brad Richards typehockey. He is not fast enough, technically brilliant enough or physically strong enough to excel here. I think one can see this quite clearly. He needs to play transition hockey and use his hockey smarts/placement skills to initialize the attack - esp in the 2nd wave to be effective. I hope Torts can see this and adjusts the lines thereafter further down the road. Cally & Richards are no Benn/Eriksson stalwarts when it comes to offensive talent. That much is very clear.

And I said that it does not look good considering some of the abysmal previous UFA signings done in NYC. His performance so far is something I can see being a huge problem further down the road - with the ink barely dry on the MEGA contract he just signed. I like Richards as a player and both believe and hope he will get his game back. There is an adjustment period and if he steps it up in the POs nobody else will be happier than me. So if Brad Ricahrds can post a PPG (career average) performance in the POs I am sure all will be forgiven - no?

But I think his play does not reflect the superstar status he expected to deliver or the play he has been delivering previously in his career. Statistically I am right here. Again, maybe he needs better offensive linemates (Dubinsky looks awful again btw) to make things click. If you are happy with his performance so far - that is your entitlement. I certainly am not.

Btw - I actually cringe to hear from people close to the players that Richards is out clubbing quite a bit in The Big Apple. Maybe that is a contributing factor??? I certainly hope not... them bright lights of Broadway can be a big distraction for any country boy...certainly were when I lived there

Someone needs to tell Teemu

The Rangers have scouted Carolina once in the last few weeks. Another time a few weeks before. Ruutu would be a pure rental. He wants 6 years/$24M. John Shannon report from last night. The Rangers aren't giving him that. Sather hasn't traded more than a 2nd round pick for a rental-Nik Antropov. There was also a conditional 4th in that deal if the Rangers reached the Eastern Conference finals. Ruutu has 1 goal in 14 games. 4 points in those 14 games. No points in his last 7 games. People complain about AA not recording a point for 16 games. Ruutu is playing with Staal.

If he's just a rental, I hope we don't give up too much for him.

I don't want any high end prospects going the other way.
