Anyways this reminds me of another thread where all the Gagner haters were all over Eskimo44 because he dared to say Gagners carrer ppg averaged to 50 points per season when it was 48 , with comments like 48 is the new 50 and were so technical about it. Well guess what Gagner career ppg averages to 50.273 for 82 game season thats for his career so whether he has reached or not its what his average for his whole career is so 50 is the new 50? lol
How many times has Gagner played 82 games in a season? IMO it's best to stick to points/game or the guy is a sure thing to score 45ish points.

Well this season he will hit 50 barring injury would you like another avatar bet But his career average would work out to 50 points on a 82 game season correct or not ?
They shouldn't. Gagner could become the #1 center if he were in Phoenix.
Really? Would you be saying this before his 8 point night? He had a good game and a nice streak, could keep it up for a few games to but no way has his value shot up that high after one or two games...

Phoenix has terrible center depth. Belanger was their #1 center last year.

Touche. Still, do they want an #1 NHL center or just a better cente then the ones they have now to build around? OEL isn't coming here for Gagner, that's all I know. We'd have to add

SO then Hemsky is a proven 80 point player. Sweet.

He needs 17 points in 32 games, just over 0.5 points/game. That is a somewhat safe bet from your side, that said if RNH bumps him to the 2nd line again soon, he could be in tough to get there this year, not to mention the possibility of injury. Also I doubt that you would've offered that bet without his once in a lifetime game.

No Hemsky is a 64 pt player lifetime over 82 game season career average don't know where you get 80 be carefull 64 is not the new 80 hate to see the Hemsky haters jump all over you

So could a lot of guys, I don't see how OEL has less value unless Gagner somewhat keeps up this insane pace and he ends up with 65ish points by years end.

I think Gagner has arrived and will be a constant .70 + player through his prime years.
Eh... I don't think Gagner is on the market so trying to figure out his value and equating it to ppg totals and career projections etc is moot.
The optics of trading him now before the deadline is so bad that fans would want the head of Tambo/Lowe on a stick... even more than they do now.
Stick with figuring out the value of Hemsky... he's the one in the doghouse and will be gone if a decent deal can be made. Lesser roster players like Sutton (who I'd keep) and Peckham (I'd trade) are also trade possibilities as well as Khabi (should go for any semi decent return) if they actually want to address their goalie situation by a trade or UFA acquisition in the off season.
I have a feeling Eager could also be on the move if a decent offer came to the Oilers. I'm mixed on Eager... he hasn't been great but he is a big physical body and has good speed and isn't totally useless with or without the puck but again if a decent offer came along I'd take it.
Next year I'm also hoping the goon experiment on the Oilers ends. Hordichuk is a waste of a roster spot. I liked MacIntyre better than Hordichuk because Smac could at least bust faces when needed.
Hordichuk is a middleweight and really doesn't do anything more in his 4 minutes per game than MacIntyre did. Get a true heavyweight like MacIntyre back or eliminate the whole goon spot on the roster entirely. I'd rather have another energy guy like Hartikainen down there as a 13th forward or a PP specialist like Omark or a PK guy like Petrell instead of a goon sitting in the pressbox for 2/3rds of the season.
2 games does not mean that he has arrived. No matter how amazing they were. And he has always been a better player in the second half.
A week ago he was on pace for a career worst season.
Oh I agree, however if these two games don't get his confidence going then chances are that nothing ever will. And like I said earlier, he had a ton of confidence in his rookie year and we haven't seen much of it since. That said if this really is a career changing event then that is great for our team moving forward.

And two weeks before that he was on his usual 45 point pace you really try to hard Gagner is really trolling you hard this week. You cant just pick Slump times as his true average maybe as a whole is a better indicator correct?
We all knew this would happen its called I puked on this kid for 4 years then he shocked the hockey world and they just can't handle it. But the O goal man they defend with vigor is allowed immunity.

I'll admit I've never been the biggest Gagner fan... in fact I've long felt Cogs and him were pretty close in value all things considered but obviously Gagner could be on the verge of finally going to the next level so don't mess with that when it could be happening. Keep him and see if he develops into that 2nd line offensive player that this team desperately needs. To be successful this team needs secondary scoring and Horcoff and Smyth increasingly certainly won't be it going forward. Hemsky is too fragile to be depended on as well.
That just leaves other players like Jones and Belanger as the only other real options and honestly if Jones were to slump the Oilers would have almost zero in terms of 2nd and 3rd line offense beyond Gagner.
I don't think the Oilers can afford to trade Gagner away even if he does revert to being a career 45 pt player. They simply don't have enough offensive depth in the pipeline to unload him right now.
Phoenix has terrible center depth. Belanger was their #1 center last year.
Maybe at times, but Hanzal was and is the #1 center and Turris ended the season ahead of Belanger (BTW the Coyotes did not try to resign him, and instead went out and traded for Langkow)
Brule has fit in well with the Coyotes
and then there is Gordon, who fits in well with the system that the Coyotes play.
Gagner only threw 24 hits last season and 13 so far this season. Sounds too soft to be a Tippet type player...

His entire body of work obviously matters the most, however consistency would be nice for a change and would be a true sign of growth in his game IMO.
I'm in the wait and see period right now. It was VERY promising that he came out firing the very next game, I'm looking forward to seeing how he does next game.
