A floor would help but I don't think it's necessary. The Marlins were winning consistently for years with a payroll smaller than A-Rod's contract.
It's certainly doable to win with a smaller salary, but I want the league to start forcing the Kansas Citys of the league to try more to be competitive

Vladimir Guerrero has made it known to the Yankees that he wants their DH spot. IMO, Raul Ibanez still the frontrunner to sign w/NYY as DH.
Love Sandy Alderson on twitter so far. He asked earlier what he should get his wife for Valentine's Day: spa day or an ihop gift card. The responses I saw on there all seemed to side with the gift card.
We almost did get Vlad before he signed with the Angels......thats when we went with Sheffield
Out of Ibanez, Vlad, Damon and Matsui, there is one guy that is not like the rest and that guy would be Damon......he can still do a little bit of everything, the rest of the guys are shot at, at least one aspect of their game
Baseball should have a salary cap. It's pretty stupid that it doesn't. Same teams are good every year.
A floor is needed more than a cap. But as I've been saying, parity is not a problem in baseball.

I think Damon would be the best option definitely. As far as Sheffield, he was a ******. But he was a hell of a hitter. And he actually doesn't get enough credit for playing through the pain he did when he had his bum shoulder. He had to catch all of his fly balls at his side. That said, I still hate his guts. What he said about Torre was just uncalled for.
Sheffield's stance was hilarious. I always thought it must be tough on his wrists to have that constant movement with the heavy bat, but it worked for him.
The thing I loved about Sheff was that if you were sitting along the third baseline, you better make sure you have your glove ready while he was at the plate. Otherwise, you could lose an eye.
One of my favorite RFers since O'Neill retired was Abreu.....guy could do everything and was one of the most consistent players in baseball for about 10 years.......every year he'd give you 20 HR, 100 RBI, .300, 20 SB, 100 runs, 160 hits and he had a cannon of an arm

NYY-PGH close to finalizing deal w/ Burnett.should get done in next 24 hours according to source;NYY weighing one last offer from other team
and ESPN just also said that the Angels offered Abreu for Burnett straight up but all west coast teams are on Burnett's list of teams he doesn't want to be traded to so he blocked it, as per the clause in his contract
