In my opinion, the Leafs this year are a pretty solid team. Stanley Cup winning? I wish. Playoff contenders? Quite possibly.
I think the huge focus on a number 1 center is pointless, Carter wouldn't be a good fit here, and Getz is too unreasonable. I think our #1 is Grabbo. However, because everyone either wants Staal from CAR, Getzlaf from ANA, or Carter from CBJ, I suggest that perhaps Weiss from FLA would be a suitable fit between Lupz and Kess?

Although they might be having slow seasons, Lombardi, Kulemin, and CMac are talented forwards that should not be given up.
Our defensive corps is also pretty strong, and there is not much I would change.
Our goaltending situation isn't perfect, but we have great depth with Rynnas and Co. However, I don't think Ben Scrivens is all he's cracked up to be. Gusty is now capable of taking the number 1 spot in net, which is preferable, but if Reimer gets his game back, we have a very powerful tandem between the pipes.

The players I would be looking to ship out before/at the trade deadline would be:
Franson
Connolly
Dupuis
Steckel
Finger

Connolly + Franson + maybe a 3rd or 4th draftpick to EDM for Hemsky + Potter

Steckel + Dupuis + pick? to LAK for Gagne + Moreau

I'm aware that these trades may seem really far-fetched, but I'm a Leaf fan that plays too much NHL 12 so, can you really blame me?

Wanting to ship out Franson is retarded.

Franson is a very, very promising, big young dman, who has really stepped it up this season.

Shipping him out after just getting him would be foolish.

Also, Simon Gagne is not worth the paper his contract is printed on.

The Hawks have a lot of good young prospects that you mentioned (also Beach and Olsen would be 2 of my favs.). They also have the ability to take on some salary if needed.
its pretty obvious we're getting toews ppl... prolly kane too!!

But with Grabovski struggling to find common ground with Burke, and the Schenn market heating up. It seems as if the Blackhawks may have picked up the phone and started discussions (kicking tires, nothing serious) with Toronto.

The thing is, what does Toronto have in mind?

Chicago is looking for a 2nd pairing defender, and they're looking for another Top 6 Centre for their teams push. Toronto has both of those pieces available and they're willing to part with them, the only issue is that Chicago isnt looking to part with pieces thats going to affect their playoff push.

Burke certainly is going to want to make a playoff push, and he can use these pieces to really make a pitch for a solid player...But he's now got another window to pursue and thats to deal someone like Schenn or Grabovski for future pieces that Chicago would be willing to give up (Picks, Morin, McNeill etc).

Chances are nothing will really generate between these two teams since they're wanting to go in the same direction, just thought I'd throw it out there.
Schenn and Grabo for a bunch of Chicago's futures, trade Chicago's futures for Getz!

Finger is in the minors and doesn't count; Dupuis has been waived already; Steckel is our best face-off guy; Franson has been great; and Connolly I agree with.

franson will not be "shipped" out, if hes traded, it will be in a blockbuster, and i doubt that happens.
steckel is going nowhere, he is a faceoff specialist, and was aquired this year to do just that,
finger is unmoveable
connolly is probably unmovable too
dupuis might get us a 6th rounder
... i think you better go back to the drawing board

Getzlaf would LITERALLY be perfect, especially for Burke.

Big, Center, not a Long-term contract, good cap-hit, skilled, aggressive, etc. The only thing he's missing is being American-born .

I don't think we acquire our #1C this year... but I expect some size to be added.

i know i didn't do much research at all, but it can't really be too bad.
Hemsky will add speed and playmaking abilities.
Gagne, although injured, brings leadership, speed, and great instinct.
Moreau brings grit and leadership. He'd more than likely just be a vet. rental. If hell froze over, he could possibly find his junior scoring touch and we'd be set!

Would be real bad and shameful, if we won't get ours this season already. There are desperate teams playing and shamef of themselves, so we should act and strike that cobra strike first. Get that number one guy, no matter the cost. We have to get that, we won't even play any playoff games if we don't. That would make our team and we would be a contender.

The line-up is actually worse than we have now. And you've managed to ship-out some good assets to do it. Hemsky is a UFA this summer and has spent about half his career on the IR; Gagne is basically a third- or maybe second-liner at this point in his career and is also fragile. Not to mention he's currently concussed.

Our issue right now is size up-front -- Gagne and Hemsky both play like *******. They don't help at all. And that's assuming they can even play. They're two of the more injury-prone players in the league.

Cycling through second- and third-line players isn't going to help this time. If we ship-out players we need to bring in guys who will have an impact and address a need: a top-six player with size and skill. Either someone to control the puck and play D on the Kessel-line or a winger who hits hard and can score for the Grabovski-line.

Nhl Primo Insider @Real_NHL_Primo
@The_Creasy that's pretty obvious Creasy. Expect Burke to make a run at Parise by or before the deadline. Parise to Leafs (primo4)

Not sure how trading for him would work considering he's UFA this summer, Burke wouldnt give up that kind of assets with a chance Parise wont sign but Im sure Jersey would love to get some assets in return if they know Parise is going to test the market anyways.

Parise is one of my favorites, after Getzlaf he is one of my most coveted players. He has experience playing center in his junior career as well. Would love to see him in a Leafs uniform.

What do you guys think about Sam Gagner from the Oilers? With the Neug basically usurping his role I think he would be available for some of the glut of defensemen the Leafs have clogging up the back end. I know he isn't the "big" center but he is a pass first speedy guy that would most likely work between Kessel and Lupul.
