Cut Emrick some slack!

Discovered this video in another thread. '96 All-Star Game

I feel like he takes a lot of crap around here. I admit, I think there are better current announcers who could be doing the blunt of the national games.

But the man is old! Listen to how great he once was. It's a shame that everyone thinks so badly about him because they aren't hearing him in his prime. Anyone who watched the FOX games regularly, or played NHL Faceoff 99, will tell you that Emrick was one of the best we've ever had in the US.

Yes, he has way to may goofy sayings and odd phrases today.

I just wish he would REBOUND to his former self. Whenever I listen to him on NBCSN he usually DRIVES me crazy with all his regular catchphrases.

I didn't watch the ASG today, did Doc say or do anything weird or odd?

As a Devils fan, I love Doc. By far my favorite announcer ever in any sport and I think he's the best hockey announcer in the game today and one of the best of all-time (definitely the best US announcer of all time).

Wow, RIP Jennings. Took me by surprise that he's been dead for nearly seven years.

Are you saying he's definitely or in your opinion definitely the best US announcer of all time? Because in my opinion, Rosen is better. Even Strader is better than Emrick, but I'm not too sure where he's from. But after those two, Emrick is the third best.

In most peoples' opinions, he's horrible. He used to be a good announcer.

The better of these announcers is John Davidson. Too bad he left the Rangers announcing crew to become President of the Blues

I don't think most people think he's horrible. I think most people don't like the phrases he uses. Like DRIVE!!!!! Besides that, I think he's an excellent announcer.

I don't like him. I cannot stand how during a break up ice, he'll go into a story about the guys obscure little canadian town upbringing and it just stinks of "look I read his bio during the tv timeout". I know he knows his stuff, now shut it & announce the game.
It hasn't been a "waffle board" for decades. Nobody "knife's" a puck ahead, and that's not even proper english. And the driiiiive makes me nauseous.

I can stand his catch phrases. I can't stand his "OooOOAHHohhoh" noise he makes every time anything happens.

Obligatory, myopic red, white and blue opinion.

And you don't speak for "most people". No one here does. You speak for yourself.

No, that's actually not the general consensus of Doc. Nice try though...

Same thing with Pominville at Giroux. Actually it wasn't so much mixing them up but rather calling them both Giroux.

He's great. says the same things a little too much but is very passionate about every game he calls. He also will talk about a certain player's history when not much is going on. I love that, and he does it so much better than Pierre.

I just want him to get player IDs and pronunciations correct. I respect his history in the business, but he becomes unlistenable when I spend half the game having to double-take because he's using the wrong names.

1. WOW Potvin was an all star?

2. So was Hamrlik?

3. How right was Peter Jennings about the glowing puck?

Love Doc, and it will be a sad day when he retires. The man is passionate about the game and it shines through his broadcast.
