It's official now...the WorSharks have signed forward Yanni Gourde and defenseman Dylan Demelo to ATO contracts.

When are they expected to play a game?

This has nothing to do w/ ATO's, but I'm a bit surprised that Anderson hasn't been assigned to Worcester so Heemskerk can go back to Stockton for their playoff run.

Funny you mention that, I have that written down as one of the things to ask tonight.

I don't know at this point, but my guess is Demelo doesn't get into a game unless/until the WorSharks are officially eliminated from the playoff hunt. As someone that's supposed to be a goal scorer we may see Gourde sooner.

Both played because Worcester is out of healthy, eligible bodies...Demelo is OK, nothing spectacular.

Gourde is so fast I can't even describe it. He's not as small as I was expecting, had no issue when he got knocked around, threw a couple nice hits, has great hands, and is very responsible defensively in his own end.

Do you see NHL potential in him? Do you know if SJ has any interest in signing him?

I don't know the answer to either of those questions yet...

It seems they're not expecting him, although as they are fond of telling me sometimes they find out the morning of a player's arrival that he's on the way.

I've mentioned it a few times, but in games with open play, Gourde should be just fine. Great speed, great hands, good shot, good vision. If you take a run at him, he's gonna bounce back right in your face. Small but very steady. Very smart kid, he knows what he wants and it's to play hockey at the next level.

The biggest challenge for him will be to show he can be an offensive treat when the play gets more defensive and physical. He struggled in the playoffs in Victoriaville when he was pressured and he had very little space.

They should just sign a couple of locals to play out the rest of the season.

Currently at 9 healthy forwards and 8 healthy defensemen...I'm all for signing a couple guys to ATO's to see what they can being for next season maybe, and keeping O'Hanley up front

Worcester can't blame the OPs in SJ for their failures this year

Even though the next three games are essentially meaningless in the standings what happens here might determine how much fan support Worcester gets next year and beyond. WorSharks are currently down to 17 healthy/eligible skaters (9 forwards, 8 defensemen)...if they don't bring in at least two forwards, even stiffs on ATOs, I can easily see the diehards here just walking away.

so does this mean SJ now owns his rights? i wish they did, kid reminds of tyler ennis. has possible top 6 potential

No one owns his NHL rights. In theory he could sign an NHL deal right now with another team...
