Maybe this is the NHL's way of saying, "Columbus, we think you're about to take big hit in season ticket renewals and we want this market to work, so maybe if the STHs know the All-Star game is coming, they'll hang on at least another year, effectively buying you another year to get your act together. You're welcome."
It would be nice; I can't believe all of the stuff coming from the office of the owner and possibly the NHL in last 48 hours... Next thing I'm going to read is that the CBJ have been moved to the East!
Regardless of the local team performance having the All-Star activities in Columbus would be an honor and something to support! Besides, if things go according recent fan efforts we might have a decent team next season..we will see.
When does the casino get built? I would think the CBJ could make a string run at hosting the game when all the pieces are in place in the Arena district.

This fall if everything goes according to plan.
Just today the Cincy casino was pouring part of an upper concrete floor and it collapsed, no deaths about 6-8 injured. Last month the same thing at Cleveland casino. Coincidences. Columbus casino is already under roof.

The casino isn't in the Arena District, it's on the West Side.
My understanding from league officials is that arena upgrades would be necessary for the Jackets to get the ASG. Perhaps they've made an exception or part of the Arena deal includes those upgrades, but I wouldn't get excited yet.

What upgrades in particular? Our arena is the model for other arenas that have been built since, such as Consol about 3 hours away in Pittsburgh. To say "upgrades" makes it sound like our arena is antiquated, which isn't the case.
Minor touch-ups is a whole different story, though. Every arena can always use those after a few years in existence.

I'm not sure about the Arena issue but the downtown Columbus hotel room count is, a new Hilton is being built as we speak that will add 500 rooms for national and international events. It's such an important issue the 670 interstate is being reconfigured to accommodate the new hotel..

I have never heard this at all.
However, what I did here was that the the NHL informed the City that it had inadequate hotel space to host an all-star game.
That problem is being solved with the building of the Hilton on High Street between the convention center and the arena.
We need a new scoreboard and better wireless Internet access for sure. I've heard they're working on upgrading the communications network. Beyond that, I haven't heard anything.

You know, come to think of it Lee, wasn't the wireless internet access one of the complaints at the draft?

Those are on the list. There are a few others as well. They're all really things connected to the corporate and sponsorship aspect of the game.
The Blue Jackets applied to host the game in 2013, 2014 or 2015, although the ’14 game might not be played if NHL players are sent to compete in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
One source told The Dispatch last night that the Blue Jackets – in the midst of the worst season in franchise history, and in dire need of good news – were informed yesterday by the league that they would be the host city next season.
The game is one of the NHL’s marquee events and would be, possibly, one of the most significant events ever hosted in the cit
Portzline has tweeted that it is official and will likely be announced by the NHL tomorrow. He cited two sources and in Puck Rakers he said that officials from the Jackets and the Columbus Sports Commission were in Ottawa for the announcement. Great for the city.
