The cap hit a team would take wouldn't be as small as McElhinney might provide, but they aren't paying him the whole season either.

If a team acted now, they'd only have to pay Roloson $851,351 for the rest of the season.
****, we could raise half that ourselves. HEY OTHER TEAMS. ROLOSON IS AVAILABLE FOR $425,000! Let the offers begin.

Would be cheaper to put him into a home.

With the trades we've made in the past week we've gained $6.8 mil in cap space already for the offseason. You can make it 9.8 if you add Roloson's $3 mil as he's practically guaranteed to no be coming back.

3.850 - Kubina
1.850 - Downie
1.100 - Moore
--------------------
6.800

Roloson's cap hit is $3.5 million: $3 million salary plus $125k performance bonus for each playoff round won - even if we don't make the playoffs those bonuses count towards his cap hit IIRC.

So that's $10.3 million (cap hit) off the books. Just like that.

Yep, your right. For some reason it wasn't correct on nhlnumbers.com but it is on CapGeek.

Also accurate.

Don't completely rule out Barberio or Gudas making a jump next year. While it seems unlikely from SYs mantra, you did just add an ECHL-to-AHL defender in that last trade and that pushes all other defenders up a slot.

Do you think Ohlund will retire? I mean why would he? It's $12m. My understanding is that if he retires, he doesn't get all that money, is that correct? I know it would be a scummy move to say you are going to come back and tease the fans and a franchise, but for that amount of money, could you blame him?

Could retire and get paid still with a handshake agreement. If he doesnt though, no biggie if he doesnt come back if we need the cap space he can be put on LTIR.

Ohlund has made plenty of money in his career and if he does retire, he will land a position within the organization unless he doesn't want one.

I think this will depend on just how badly his knee is screwed up.

If he can't skate *at all*, then coaching would be out.

Based on who he's going to for this surgery, I think he wants to play.

He was a player under Boucher in 06-07 at Drummondville, so there's a connection.

I admit I was a bit upset when they claimed him, but now it's funny to see that he's been so horrible that he's been a complete headache rather an addition.
