Even if we go on a ridiculous tear I'd be surprised if we end up being buyers. I think we're just too many pieces away from being a legitimate cup contender to warrant trading away more of our future, which Yzerman said he's opposed to doing anyway.
It might be tough to swallow, but if the plan is truly to build though the draft and contend for the cup down the road, management has to do what's best for the team. That likely includes dealing players such as Moore, Kubina, Clark, Hall, Shannon etc. which would obviously hurt our playoff chances even more.

Reason: double if

We always fair well against the Rangers. Sabres shouldn't be too challenging as they're struggling mightily, and the Pens got whooped by the Devils. To be honest, LA is the game I'm worried about. Western Conference team and last game of the homestand. Unfortunately, it has all the looks of a trap let-down game.
This was so much easier a few weeks ago... I would have said were sellers no question about it.. Now after some wins..there's a chance they could make the playoffs..As we all know once you make it to the dance anything can happen.
It's a tough call now...

I feel good about the matchup LA, they're one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL, it's been Quick and the defense carrying the team. Then again, I can see another game like the Winnipeg one where we control the game and still lose.

Don't think LA has to worry about Quick faltering. He's the reason LA is even in playoff discussion.
When did regular season success suddenly become an indicator of how a goalie will do in the playoffs? Just because he leads them there, doesn't mean that he's invincible come playoffs. Also, Quick's never won a playoff series before, I think LA could use all the experience/insurance in net that they could get.
Assuming Yzerman decides you will be a seller at the deadline, what would it take from the Preds to get Ryan Malone. I know he has a NMC, but let's say he waived it. I know he isn't a rental, so it'd be higher value from the Preds than if he was. Poile keeps saying we're bringing in a "Mike Fisher level player", and Malone seems to be there.
Not sure what you need, but we have plenty of picks and young defenseman.
I was wondering the same but from the Canucks. Love them or hate them the Canucks are a contender so he would likely waive his NTC. They should could use him. What would would you like to see from the Canucks to make this happen?
(I know, I already went over to your board to ask and got some harsh replies about him..)
Our PP has absolutely been better with him than before, but he makes horrendous defensive plays multiple times per game, often leading to goals against. I know MAB is no defensive wizard, but he's better than Foster in every way, and I think he could really help our team
Sorry but if your looking for an upgrade defensively from Foster I don't think MAB is your guy.
I saw a stat awhile ago that MAB is 3rd in offensive zone faceoff starting points behind only the Sedins. There is a reason for that.
I'm more looking for an upgrade overall. With Larsson, Salvador, Greene, Fayne, Tallinder and Volchenkov, we wouldn't need MAB to play in any situation where he'd be relied upon defensively. I'd like to carry him as the 7th D solely for offensive-zone starts and PP opportunities
Just curious what Purcell's situation is. Could he be made available? Cheers.
doubt it, but never say never. He is one of the few guys outside of the big 3 that can put up points, he has good vision and hands but needs to use his speed much better. But really he just needs to start playing hard every night. I think Yzerman/Boucher will still give him more time here before they get over the streakyness
