Straight up wouldn't work due to cap constraints, which means there has to be another player involved(unless Gillis makes another trade immediately). Tampa's real need is defense. So if this trade were to happen(big were, Yzerman likes his first rounders) then the other logical piece coming to Tampa with Schneider would be either one of Edler, Ballard, Bieksa, or Hamhuis. The latter 2 have NTC's so the odds of them waiving would be low(could be wrong though). That leaves Edler and Ballard. Edler is young and great so I highly doubt it's him unless Tampa is paying a lot more than originally thought. That leaves Ballard, who could slot into our Top-4 no problem. He has 3 more years left on his deal after this season at $4.2million, so in effect he'd be replacing Malone's cap hit.
I see potential here, but then again very iffy on it as goalies seem to go belly up in Tampa.
I know it wouldn't be a deadline move, and I apologize if this is an obvious HELL NO, but do you guys see moving Lecavalier in the offseason as a possibility to get multiple young assets? I know you could get Subban, Eller and some more nice assets from the Habs, and despite his contract, I think a bidding war would escalate in very favorable fashion for the Bolts. Thoughts?
As a rangers fan, I'd love to find a way to get him here without dismantling the core of the team that's sitting in first place right now.
Would something like this even be considerable?
Staal, Anisimov, Wolski for Lecavalier, Thompson, Bergeron
The salary is almost a wash.
Tampa gets a top shutdown defenseman (who's only 25) to help Hedman develop at his own pace with less pressure, a solid, big second line center (who's still only 23), and Wolski (still only 26) whose rights they'd retain as a RFA if they want him. Plus, he's got one of the coolest names in hockey, if not the world.
The Rangers get... another big name. Hehe. Richards and Lecavalier actually grew up playing together, despite not playing much even strength time together in Tampa. Id like to see Lecavalier play wing on Richards' line. They also get a perfect third line energy guy in Thompson, and that big PP blast they've been missing for....forever.

Vinny has a NMC for another7 years, loves it here, face of the franchise, family with kids, sister, and parents all here. No way he moves unless he wants to, and that will only happen if SFY leaves and Vinik sells the team to someone worse than Barrie/Koules
Staal (who just came off a concussion that sidelined him for most of the season), Anisimov (obvious), and Wolski (a healthy scratch) for Lecavalier and Thompson.

Yea, gonna have to pass on this one.
Wolski missed most of the season with a groin injury, although, yes, he has been a healthy scratch the past 8 games.
Would Tampa be interested in picking up Paul Martin for futures in the offseason?
We sorely lack top 6 potential forward prospects. I'd imagine if he'd be moved, we'd be making room for Despres and would be looking to create cap space to maybe make a run at a FA.
I'll pass on Martin - looking at his HARD+ and a few other stats it looks like he was a decent player propped up by a system rather than a great player struggling.

HARD+ would also mean that MAB is the 4th best defensive player on the Lightning.

IIrc Yzerman did try to go after him when he was a FA, so I'd say there would still some interest, but maybe not anymore with 5 mil on the cap the next 3 seasons.
Lose one of the next 2 and I think we move into the sellers column.
I think we are already in the sellers column, but goods at full retail right now. SFY keeping his phone charged and a spare battery at all times for the next 17 days.
