Thomas Kaberle (don't let the +/- fool you, or the points, these 2 got better since he came to montreal)
for

a 2nd rounder
or
Abdelkader

The wings get a smooth defenseman who reinforce the wings top 6 and the habs get a nice piece to help the retool
Detroit got the cap space to take on that, and by a wide margin

flame away

If the wings wanted Kaberle, they would have picked him up from Carolina. Ian White is working out perfectly for the wings.

Enjoy him to his fullest.

Seems fair, I'd rather Abdelkader, over the 2nd.

If Keberle had 1 year left, I'd probably do it. But that contract is to long.

averages 16:29 for a team that regularly plays 7 D.

I'd just assume keep him to be honest.... 13 pts in 20 games and + 2 in Montreal.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/player/stats/.../tomas-kaberle

Kaberle has been as good as Montreal could have hoped in acquiring him, and at 4.25 million is fair value for what hes providing. Hes only 33 and his stats show no sign of decline (other than not being a fit in Carolina)... he's been on pace for around ~50 pts/82 games or better in every season since the lockout, and despite the bad start in carolina is maintaining that pace since joining montreal and will still finish above 40 pts.

That deal benefits both teams, I would pull the trigger.

It doesn't benefit the wings. They give up an asset for a player that isn't a clear upgrade over Ian White, and Kaberle is older and has a worse contract.

As a habs fan, i'd say yes. Get rid of an aging vet with a hefty contract for a 2nd rd pick. We have young Ds that can quarterback the PP too, like Weber (hopefully we keep him), Subban, and eventually mr. glass when he comes back.

Wings probs say no though

Kaberle will be a good fit if Lidstrom retires at seasons end. Also he fits into to Detroit's system. He could have 45-50 pts there.

Ryan Suter would be an even better fit. I don't want Holland taking on any contracts past this year for obvious reasons.

His name hasn't been thrown around in a while but I'm thinking he might pursue Semin. Maybe Datsyuk can light a fire under his ass.

Not that I wouldn't mind moving Abdelkader but I don't want any of Kaberle's contract. We already have 1 over paid Dman on the team, and adding his 4 million cap hit to us this summer will limit our options come F/A. Unless you're willing to take Ericsson then I dont see us getting a deal done.

Wont happen.

Abdelkader is one of Detroits only forwards that is capable of handling the rougher side of the game and is a good PKer. Hes also versatile and can move arond from forwrd position and lines.

Kaberle offers Detroit nothing and they already have Brendan Smith coming up to play a role similar to Kaberle, except Smith is tough

If the replacement for Lidstrom is Kaberle then the wings are screwed.

You guys don't really think Holland is going to take Kaberle and that ridiculous contract off your hands do you? And give you an asset for him? Seriously, guys? Really?

Wings have Ian Whitepower who has been nothing but great since coming here (surprised a lot of guys with his play).

This team needs to replace our captain soon and July 1 will be a good start so might as well save some money for that.

Abdelkader is despite Kronwall(ed) the only one who can play the physical part too so no but thanks to that trade.

Funny how 4.25 million for a 50 pt dman is considered a "ridiculous contract."

hasn't reached 50 points since 2008 and definitely won't do it this year.

Oh sorry 49 and 47 are so far below that.

He was also above that pace in 2010 but got hurt.

In Montreal he has 13 pts in 20 games (once again a 50 pt pace)

Don't let a couple bad months in carolina (where he was not a fit for that team) cloud what the guy does year in and year out.

Then why do you endorse trading him?
