Buffalo - Edmonton

1st Round Pick in 2012
C Sam Gagner
LW Curtis Hamilton
Conditional 1st Round pick in 2013

*Condition: If the Oilers draft lower than the top 5 in 2012, the 1st in 2013 is thrown in.*

D Tyler Myers

I hope this seems like a decent base to build around. With all the frustration being publicised (by the media) of the Sabres management right now, I thought maybe some players might get moved.

As unlikely and crazy as Myers being traded out of Buffalo would be, would a top 5 pick, top 6 young centre and a decent prospect be enought to snatch him? Is it a good base realistically? What needs adding?

As for the proposal, Buffalo declines. They're not moving Myers.

I'm sure Buffalo are listening to offers on all their players but Myers is the exception.

I know you want Myers in Edmonton, but even this is an overpayment

It would likely have to be an exceptional offer to make it happen. In the context of this site, the usually dubbed "massive overpayment" (which the Oiler pick possibly being first overall could very well be). He's probably the most unlikely player on the team to be dealt at this point in time -- operating as a #1 defenseman at his age and doing so as well as he has is so very rare.

Well a top 5 pick in a deep draft, 2nd line C and a good prospect seem like a good base value wise for Sabres. How much more needs to be added to this?

I added a conditional first in 2013 to the OP

Myers wont be traded. Regier wouldn't be allowed anywhere near Western New York every again.

Hall and RNH, but you have to take Leino too.

Plus Crosby and Ovechkin are traded to Buffalo as the trade becomes a four-team exchange. No returns for Pittsburgh or Washington from Buffalo. Also Buffalo is given the Stanley Cup for the next 25 years.

If we get Stamkos instead of OV then I accept.

Oilers are in a rebuild... Guess what you don't do when your in a rebuild. Trade draft picks and young players! Oilers are not in a win now situation so why give up so much when we can draft a defenseman.

The point is that Myers is going no where and there's no reason for him to be traded unless it's an unbelievable payment.

Similarly, Buffalo is not in a position to jettison its youth either if they are, as expected, making moves to their slightly older veteran group.

Pretty sure most Oiler fans are content with drafting in the top 5 instead of throwing away a potentially better player combined with 3 other valuable assets. This is a huge no from Edmonton, imo.

As a Sabres fan, I think I'd do this deal. That 2012 1st rounder is likely to be #1 or #2 overall, and that means Grigorenko or Yakupov. And that's in addition to Buffalo's 1st rounder, which is looking like it'll be in the top-10. Buffalo could use their 1st on one of the many defensemen pegged to go in the top-10, or they could draft another center like Galchenyuk.

For Sabres fans, I think the issue is where you come down on what Myers will be in the future. If you think he's a bigger version of Scott Niedermayer, you keep him. If you think he's a bigger, slightly better version of Jay Bouwmeester, I think you make the deal. Frankly, I don't know which he is, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not concerned with his lack of development since his rookie season--actually, I think he's regressed.

His development is a bit disappointing, but hardly surprising for a 21 yr old defenseman who plays on the top pairing. I'm willing to give Myers some time to develop. Our d is **** without Myers.

OMG you dont do this deal if your Edmonton. You take Ryan Murray with our pick who projects as just as good if not better than Myers.

I get that Myers is more along the curve but come on he isnt even a top 10 under 25 dman in the NHL so why trade a lotto pick for him? Makes no sense.

I am not bashing Myers but that makes no sense for the Oil.

If a franchise drafts two of Girgorenko/Gaunce/Galchenyuk, that's a franchise-defining shift. I like the direction, even at the cost.

If we draft dumba or murray, there is a good chance that both will be better then myers. The oilers should not and will not trade the 1st rounder. We need it, it is a vital part of our future

This is an overpayment for Tyler Myers. The Oilers will be picking Yakupov, or Grigorenko, plus adding a 22 year old 2nd line centre, and an average prospect

I make any deal... with as many assets as needed, if it guarantees me 2 of those 3 guys.
