This went well last year, so I figure it's time to start it up again. Combinations haven't emerged yet, but advice for what kind of players are best to complete a line or pairing should be coming up now.
So, post any questions/advice/analysis you have on building lineups here.
Out of curiousity, would people be willing to give private advice? (Advice on whether or not to select a player who has yet to be picked in fitting with a team build).

I think it's fine if the person asking for advice is the one who brings up the player's name and then wants advice on that player. But I really don't like the idea of GMs (or outsiders) volunteering names to other GMs - seems like a shady run-around the "no naming undrafteds rule."

Should I put Firsov and Bure on separate lines, or do you think there would be workable chemistry there?
Two speedy Russians, one (Bure) with little defensive awareness to speak of. I would imagine Firsov is somewhat better in that respect, but I'll happily defer to someone more in the know.
I think Trottier would be able to work with either one, to be honest.

It is my opinion that in the ATD, Bure works best carrying a second line. (Unless you really carefully build a Bure line.) He wouldn't get the most out of Trottier and if Trottier and Firsov are clicking, you wouldn't get the most out of Bure.

I wouldn't put Trottier with Bure, because you can't play Trottier against top lines anymore. I think Firsov would be better without Bure too. Build a strong second line around Bure with players who fit with him.

Was wondering what type of defenseman do I pair with Tremblay? From what I read on him Tremblay was a good 2 way defenseman. So do I pair him with a defensive guy or an offensive guy?
You should pair him with someone who is strong in the corners and can clear the crease, as he's not very physical.
What would people think of splitting up Moore and Howe? Put Moore on my 2nd line, and Howe on the first. Salming and Goodfellow are anchoring my first and second pairings. I've got 4 picks from 170 to 195ish and I'll probably pick 3 forwards and a defenseman.

Like Nalyd said, it depends on who you can get. I'd also add that it depends on what you think their chemistry will be with Howe and Moore.

Howe and Moore are kind of duplicate skillsets. They can score, pass, they're tough, and they can win the puck.
You could play them together for sure but splitting them up might give you more flexibility in filling out your top two lines.
You probably want a goal scoring centre for Moore to get the most out of his playmaking and corner work.
Are people satisfied with how a top pairing of Nicklas Lidstrom and Larry Murphy can handle power forwards by their domination of the Legion of Doom?
My division is kind of stacked with power forwards
Funny you should mention that, I talked myself out of selecting Murphy one round ago, thinking I could use more firepower up front (Bure). Now I added one of the original PF's in Broadbent to finish off my first line......here's hoping he gives Murphy all he can handle.
