1 things for sure, we can't be consistent in losing, a 4-5 game losing streak can ruin our spot at 9th. But if we can gain a 5 game winning streak and play .500 hockey from there that would get us a 7th or 8th spot.
Won't count out the guys below us, 4 game win streak and everything changes.
Not really. Thats the whole point of this thread. Any of those bottom teams go 4 for 4 and the teams in the running only go 2 for 4 and those undefeated teams are still behind. They have to basically become top teams in the NHL (like Rangers good) and/or one or more of the teams still in have to completely implode.
Essentially they're where we were last year at this point.
Realistically were playing the Bruins or Rangers in the first round so I'm not getting over excited for the playoffs
I do like our chances of getting in though. If we could finish 6th ( I think its possible) and play Washington (who are pretty much locks for third ) i think our chances are a lot better in the first round. We can beat washington

I personally think we have a shot at the Rangers too. We've beat them twice in MSG this year in regulation, something few(if anyone else?) has done.
I personally vote for a Toronto-Ottawa 4-5 finish, that would just be awesome.
Ottawa has a 5 point lead on Tor/FLA/NJ and has 3 games in hand on the leafs, 4 games in hand on FLA/NJ. They are in no way ahead by a significant margin - they've just played more games.
I agree, NYR (and hope for a miracle) or Washington would be the best bets. Pittsburgh with crosby out would be doable I think, but with crosby in we're toasted.
As always, Gusty or Reimer could pull a Halak, but can't count on that.
If we can squeeze into second round, anything can happen. Getting Boston would be bitter sweet - I don't think the leafs would fall as easy as Boston would think, but I don't think they'd prevail.
But look how well Leafs have done post All-Star break in recent years or how New Jersey played last year. Even playing way over .500 hockey it is really hard to catch multiple teams ahead of you. Asking for multiple teams in playoff positions or close to it to play .500 or less is a lot to ask.
