I would rather get Florida,Washington,or Winnipeg than Boston, pitts, philly or the rangers first round. We need to take 6th from the Devils.

Thoughts.

Yeah I've heard that rumination a few times on this board here, although no one had made a new thread about it to this point.

Some fans think we'd have a good shot against the Rangers, too (not so sure myself). I think the Mantra is anybody but the Bruins.

I was thinking about this earlier while I was checking out the standings, #6 is probably the best spot to be in outside of being top of the division. 4/5 look like they'll be hard to get to, and we'd be against Pittsburgh or Phillie anyway. Florida would be an awesome team to play against.

Thanks for the hot tip.

In other news: the Stanley Cup, millions of dollars and copious amounts of sex are other things we should go for.

I dunno, I might be OK with finishing 8th and playing the Rangers in the first round. The Leafs own the Rangers at Madison Square Garden this year

I'd be happy with either the Rangers or Panthers.

Don't know.
I'd guess they think the post is trivial and not worth discussion. But if that is the case why even bother responding.
But kudos for you saying that.

Sarcasm on the internet? Now I've seen everything.

Damnit, look what you made me do.

Really though, 6th place is obviously the best spot to aim for (outside of winning the division), even better than 4th/5th. As others have mentioned, I'd also rather play the Rangers than Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. We'd probably still lose, but the Leafs have fared well against the Rangers in recent memory.

A series against Boston would obviously have the most hype and I think that would be exciting, but you don't exactly hope to go into a series that you're likely to get swept in.

I'd face any team in the eastern conference not named Boston. I'm pretty sure the Leafs would be competitive in all series just not with the Bruins.

1-8 is fine with me cause we all know we'll be #1 in june

But seriously,

6th may be possible, that'd be sweet. We shouldn't just be set on "8th", we need to keep trucking

I'm sure most in here just want to make it to the playoffs let alone try and pick the position. anywhere in the playoffs is good.

I'm not superstitious but there's something arrogant about trying to "choose" your playoff spot when we haven't even made the playoffs yet

One step at a time, boys.

if on the final day of the season the Leafs were 1 point out of 5th and the choice was between facing a third place Capitals/Panthers or the 4th place Penguins/Flyers would you be mad if they didn't throw the game?

This x1,000,000

I will not worry about potential playoff match-ups until I see an "x" beside our name in the standings, assuming we get to see an "x" this season.

This.

People are acting like the play-offs are a lock. I just want to see some Leafs post season action this year. My only real wish is to not match up with Boston.

I'd rather win the last game on a high note. Something like 5-0 especially since its against Montreal who probably would help us do that as they wouldn't want to beat us which would lead to us facing the caps or panthers.

I'd also want a better chance of getting home ice if we manage to go to the next round. If we chose to lose the game, the only way we'd get home ice is if the 7th and 8th seed knock out 1 and 2.

Keep in mind. Once in the playoffs anything can happen. We play fairly good against Pittsburgh (without Crosby) so I'd think we'd have a chance. Also if Bryzgalov and Brobovsky go on a breakdown then we'd be all see to go on to the next round.

The southeast division really seems like the overall weaker division, in all likelyhood the 3rd playoff spot will come from that division. looking at the point totals so far its not hard to immagine that the 3rd place playoff team may very likely be the overall weakest team in the eastern conference playoff hunt.

so it makes sense that someone would suggest that the 6th spot would be our preferred playoff placement(if we make it).

it's at least a reasonnable goal. well within the realm off possibilities.

Sadly, I think we will finish 7th and play the Bruins.
