Bottom 4 seed teams don't win the Cup and Burke has repeated over and over that his job is to win it all.

WAY too far to tell. Depends on the off-season acquisitions.. Right now no way, lets get into a playoff spot first.

Why dont we speculate on who we will draft in the 5th round in 2015? Because its pointless. Way too many variables to be logically discussing this.

Sure. We are contenders already. Every team is a contender who gets into the playoffs. Anybody can win there and everything happens. Injuries and everything. On any given sunday, anything can happen.

The 2 teams in the 2010 ECF were the 7 and 8 seeded teams.

Depends on the acquisitions during the summer. Most likely we won't be top 4 next year but we do expect the leafs to be in the run for playoffs all year. Sure, any team seeded 5-8 have not won a cup in the past 15+ years from what I know but, making the playoffs consistently would be big a improvement.

nope. 4-8 finish in the conference isn't good enough to win the cup.

Not if the roster is relatively the same. Sure youth growth will help, but need some additions if we expect to be doing more than continuing to battle for those last few playoff spots.

With the current roster no. With improvements, player progression, more consistent goaltending, trades/signings of good players, anything is possible.

I'm sure Burke will be active in the Parise sweepstakes if he doesn't resign with NJ. If not he probably has something else up his sleeve.

Is to. History proves me correct. NHL does prove me correct.

no way... our #1 dman isn't good enough to get us home ice advantage, and our #1 center isn't either. Obviously someone else is going to breakout next year again, and we'll be set for lyffe!

I can't recall any team seeded #5-8 in either conference winning the cup since we went to conference playoffs format back in 98-99.

Lots of low seeded teams make it to the finals, but I want the Leafs to win the Stanley Cup not make a cindarella run.

If you wish to be dissipointed, you can expect a top four seed sure. Personally, I just want to start making the playoffs on a consistant basis before I set my sights any higher.

Obviously a lot of things can come into factor from now and next year, but I certainly expect that Burke will make the moves, or at least there will be enough internal improvement that we're no longer just competing for playoffs, but home ice advantage.

Some interesting stats I found in an old thread:

1) President's Trophy winners won 11 of 30 championships.
Championship Odds: 36.67%

2) Second and third highest point totals in the NHL (not just the conference, but the whole league, East and West): 10 championships.
Championship Odds: 16.67% for each team

3) Teams that were 4th to 6th in the NHL (and NOT the conference) won 7 championships.
Championship Odds: 7.77% for each team

4) Teams ranked 7th to 9th won only two Cup in 30 years.
Championship Odds: 2.22% for each team

5) No team ranked below 9 in the NHL ever won the Cup.
Championship Odds: 0%

All in all, if you are the #4 seed in the East (about a 7-8 in the NHL overall), your odds of winning are only about 2%.
