I find it kinda "interesting" how this is being promoted compared to the Kansas City preseason game . That was mostly just an article in the paper, a brief article on the Isles website, and maybe the Facebook page mentioned it. It seemed very "nonchalant" but was an obvious nudge to Nassau County.

The NYI story has links to Barclays Center, renderings, arena info/schedules, quotes from Snow saying the Isles want to expand their base in Brooklyn...then whoever runs Barclays Facebook page is liking comments regarding the Isles permanently moving there and the Isles Facebook page is linked there and follows the Barclays Center.

I dunno, they're either laying the "You could lose us, Nassau" threats on thick with this...or there's SERIOUS consideration that the Isles are moving there.

I just wish it wasn't the Devils we were playing. Would prefer it filled with a mix of the current isles fans and potential fans, so we could see what the crowd effect would be and to give as many Islander/potential islander fans a chance to see the building in action. Since it is a one time thing for now, doubt they would need the devils to fill it.

This.

Nassau shouldn't even be on the radar anymore. They obviously don't want the Isles. I say **** 'em.

As someone who has to come from out of town to go to a game, I am ALL ABOUT THIS! I live outside of Philly, so driving up to Nassau for a game costs a small fortune with all the bridge tolls I have to take, and it just takes so much longer to get to Nassau than it does to get to NYC. Being able to take a train into Penn Sta. then a subway ride straight to the arena sounds A LOT more appealing than the 2.5-3 hour, $30 each way in tolls path to NVMC.

I'm getting tix as soon as they are on sale! Can't wait for this :]

You have to look at the other side and ask yourself why would the Nets/Barclay's center do this? Just to help the Islanders threaten Nassau county? The world doesn't work like that, this is business. When the NHL met with the Brooklyn folks there had to be some commitment on the Islanders part that this was a real possibility.

Right on.

It's speculation...I know. But what we do know is that Wang was very angry when the vote failed. He pushed the Lighthouse Project for years and that failed, and now the referendum fell flat on it's face. He was rightfully pissed. Then we also know that, in August and September after the vote, Ratner had a change of heart and was suddenly interested in bringing the Isles in. There was even speculation of a work order at the Barclays site to try and figure out how to make hockey fit. Right after that, Ratner and Nets President were seen at NHL HQ. After that, John Tavares decided to sign thru 2018. And sprinkled throughout all of this, were rumors and reports that Wang and Ratner and the people involved have had discussions in the past regarding an Isles move to Brooklyn.

It almost sounds like there may have some discussions with Ratner before the referendum...yet Wang said "Let's see where we stand after this referendum vote". Vote fails, Wang gets pissed and talks between him and Ratner intensify...perhaps even some agreement was made or some plan was then laid out for the Isles eventual move and they're continuing to keep it on the down low. I think JT would take the risk and sign even if he didn't know where the team would end up after 2015...he's that kind of player. But, do I put it passed Islander brass telling him, "Our future is most likely in Brooklyn and we've got a loose agreement to relocate there when our lease is up?"

I dunno...speculation of course...but in some instances, it makes alot of sense.

October 3, great day Huh

moving to brooklyn would be great. its a new building in the city which may help attract some FA's. personally its 3 stops from my job and i would probably attend every game! lets hope this is the forst step to stability for this team.
i'd rather the brooklyn islanders than no islanders. i wouldnt follow the team anywhere i couldnt see them live and that means i'd probably be done with the NHL because there is no way i'd support the garbage rangers or the Devils EVER!

I have little doubt that the Islanders will cement themselves right where they are on Hempstead Turnpike. It might be in 2020, but I think it's where they'll be. I could very easily seem them paying rent in Brooklyn for a few seasons, then heading back to Nassau when their new building is finished.

this is a win-win for the islanders organization. In one fell swoop they:

- Get to put pressure on Nassau
- Get to test out the new arena in Brooklyn for feasibility (maybe light a fire under Queens as well).
- Give current and potential fans a chance to experience what a new home there would be like and provide feedback
-GET A LOT OF PUBLICITY LOCALLY PROMOTING THIS

The fact that this will bring publicity in the local area, and expose people in NYC to another viable hockey option is something this invisible team really needs. If they can drum up support in the area for a move, or pick up a few fans at the NVMC who enjoyed watching an NHL game to help fill the seats, it's all good. They may even get more than a paragraph in the NYC papers.

We're here We're here...

Whether they are moving, staying or whatever it is a no brainer for them.

Why move to Brooklyn for a few seasons if they are getting a new building in Nassau?

Why wouldn't a new building go up while the Islanders played in NVMC?

Why would Nassau give up the revenue?

If you tell me that the deal is with NYC and Brooklyn is a stop gap to Queens I can see that but Nassau to Brooklyn to Nassau?

I wonder if they do stay in Nassau if they would ever consider a few regular season games a year in Brooklyn in the future.

Exactly. If there is a zero hour deal between the Isles and Nassau causing a new building to be completed after the current lease runs out, it's more likely they'll sign an extension for the current lease for enough time to cover them until the new building is complete than it is for them to play a season or two in Brooklyn only to come back to Nassau.

You're right! Because if the Colisem is being built up and built around, Superior Ice Rink in Kings Park is a viable alternative. What was I thinking?

Also, slap a big, fat MAYBE on this game. A labor agreement is not a certainty.

Do you think Suter and/or Parise will like Brooklyn Seriously though this should hopfully tell UFA's that we are serious about staying in this area and getting a new building

not a chance in hell there will be a work stoppage next year...bettman, the players and the owners alike all know another work stoppage will literally kill this league....say goodbye to pretty much european player if this happens

I think they'd probably do any renovations in stages similar to the MSG project.

You don't know much about Donald Fehr do you? Guy is a mega-dick. And the fact that the P.A. turned down the realignment plan has already put the relationship between the two sides in a perilous state. This is not even CLOSE to a slam dunk.
