The Hurricanes and Maple Leafs have come to an agreement
to :
C Matthew Lombardi
to : C Tim Brent
D Austin Levi (prospect)
This is another deal that fills a gap that we feel we have in the roster. With so much young depth and another high pick coming we felt we could make this move to continue to improve our roster. We have a ton of cap room and Toronto needed to dump some salary, thats how this deal came to be. Here is the updated Hurricanes Roster: (thoughts?)
Jeff Skinner - Eric Staal - Jiri Tlusty
Jussi Jokinen - Brandon Sutter - Michael Frolik
Chad LaRose - Matthew Lombardi - Joel Ward
Andres Nodl - Patrick Dwyer - Anthony Stewart
Riley Nash
Joni Pitkanen - Justin Faulk
Jaime McBain - Tim Gleason
Jaraslav Spacek - Jason Demers
(Derik Joslin, Jay Harrison)
Cam Ward
Justin Peters
Brian Boucher
i think that 3rd line has so much speed and grit, I hope to get 1 more top 6 forward and another D, but I think this team looks better than it did when I started

Leafs confirm. Matt has been a good soldier, but we needed to move cap space to try and fill other areas.
We are familiar with Tim as he is a good 2 way center and penalty killer. He should fit in well on our 3rd line
Now looking to make move for a #2 RW. Bozak, 1 of Schenn or Gunarsson and MacArthur are available
We felt we had a high likelihood of getting Suter locked up to a massive extension before he hit the open market, as we're doing everything we can to improve this team. However, we realized that with the offers coming in, the advantages to moving him, versus losing him to FA for nothing were simply to great. With that being said we'd like to announce two new faces to the Nashville organization.
Martin Hanzal
Keith Yandle
Heading to Phoenix, Arizona.
Ryan Suter
Nick Spaling
Matt Halischuk
Conditional NSH 1st 2012 (If Ryan Suter does not re-sign)
The Coyotes are taking a risk, we hope Suter makes a decision that makes sense for him and his career, but we're thrilled to end up with a guy in Yandle locked up long term, and a player like Hanzal who fits our system like a glove.
Still available from the Nashville Predators:
Jonathon Blum
Sergei Kostitsyn
David Legwand
Alex Radulov
Sauer is a very good, responsible young defenseman on his own. I think the Rangers actually paid a steep price for a UFA.
I like Sauer as a defenseman, but with Staal, McDonagh, and Giardi, I felt his skill set was replicated through the roster, and Wideman is a top-10 offensive defenseman in the league. I can't let MDZ carry all of the offensive load on his lonesome
I think the price could have been higher had I sat on it longer.

Yeah, I make that deal every time. Ridiculous d you have now too I must say.
^ I'm happy with that return. I get Sauer who will make a great shutdown pair along with Alzner, and a 2nd for a guy I wasn't planning on resigning since he was going to cost in the 5.5-6mil range. And I save about 2.7 mil in cap.
Prospal, huselius, pahlsson, brassard, are all available.
Expect carter to be traded in the near future (im patient, but like a deal a lot). Nothing imminent on nash. If were moving our franchise, i need at least a key long term piece.

I think we can be happy that with dissenting opinions from the crowd, we made a pretty fair deal.
I think it's a good deal for both sides, although I do question why a team such as Washington is selling so to speak at the deadline.
Not selling... But I think there were too many bad contracts (not saying Wideman was one, he wasn't, but I didn't want to pay for his raise in the offseason). I already moved Ward, and am on the verge of moving 2 more bad contracts which take up about 8mil while having a minimum role on the team. I'm trying to stay competitive this season, but mostly gear for next year.
Looking to package Mason Raymond with either Keith Ballard or picks/prospects for either a gritty top 9 forward or #4/5 RHS d-man, or both in a larger trade. Not looking to move Cory Schneider, but will consider it for a deal involving an impact defenseman or forward.

Hey, sorry guys, I've got a huge lab writeup and two midterms on Thursday. I'll get to the RFA offers after I'm done Thursday night, hope that's not wrecking anyone's plans.
