Big loss for the Caps as the Sharks win it 5-3 With wins on Wednesday & Friday (since the Caps don't play until Friday), the Panthers can be 8 points up on them for the division lead!
would love to see the biggest chokers (caps) miss the playoffs
as would we all. Good luck the rest of the way it looks like the pacific is all wrapped up for you guys this year. Looking forward to seeing couture and the boys go deep into the playoffs.

you too man, im excited to see the panthers back in the playoffs again, very underrated team
That goal from center ice was actually deflected really nicely by Pavelski so it hopped before it got to Holtby. But it was still awesome to see nonetheless.
Even if Washington were to come back and take the division, we are still in a very good position to get in. We have a healthy lead over the teams 10+ in the standings, and point wise, we are close to Toronto and Ottawa, but have games in hand. Taking care of our own, we could have a seven point lead on both of those teams when we all have the same amount of GP'd.
This was shamelessly stolen from Bozak on the main forum.
For each team to hit 92 points:
1) N.Y. Rangers – 7-20-1
2) Boston – 11-18-0
3) Philadelphia – 11-14-1
4) Pittsburgh – 11-14-1
5) New Jersey – 13-14-0
6) Florida – 13-13-1
7) Washington – 15-11-1
8.) Toronto – 15-11-0
9) Ottawa – 14-10-0
10) Winnipeg – 17-8-0
11) Montreal – 18-7-1
12) Tampa Bay – 19-8-0
13) N.Y. Islanders – 19-8-0
14) Buffalo – 19-8-0
15) Carolina – 20-5-1
Like I said, it's a 9 team race.
Great post. This shows how hard it is to make the playoffs when you are on the outside looking in with only 1/3 or 1/4 of a season left to go. A 4 or 6 or 8 point lead may not sound like much, but it is a SIGNIFICANT lead late in the season. Its not a simple matter of "if they win 3 games in a row we will be tied" and hence screwed. To catch up to the teams ahead requires sustained high level of play and if the team was that good, they wouldnt be behind in the first place.
Bottom line
1. Extremely Hard to make up ground late in the season
2. Panthers in great position any way you slice it
Yeah, and before the season Melrose picked us to be 15th in the conference. Gotta love these "experts". I could do a better job of punditry without even trying. All I need to do is grow a mullet, pack on 50 lbs. and huff some paint thinner so I can lose a few hundred brain cells.
This is the worst news of the season. It seems like every time Melrose says something, the opposite happens. The guy is a terrible analyst.
As a matter of fact, all of these NHL analysts on tv are pretty terrible. Melrose, Milbury, Jones, etc. All they do is make predictions based on what we already see in the standings. I wish I could have their jobs - it certainly doesn't take a genius, and at least I'd know which conference we're in!

Saturday root for: Tampa Bay

Tampa's game against Washington is going to be big for us. I don't usually watch many non-Panthers games, but I might try and catch this one. Tampa Bay winning gives us +1.1%. Which is great considering it's a game we don't even play in.

Wow rare to see anything > 1% for a game we're not playing.
