Primary Target

Mathieu Perreault, the sudden star of Washington with the absence of both Ovechkin and Backstrom. He has risen quickly, forced to center the top line and managed a recent hat trick.

As of right now, we are the 9th seed.
After tomorrow night, I'd really like to be the 3rd seed.

^It's that simple. Make it happen.

They have no Backstrom, no Ovechkin, no Green, and playing on the 2nd of a B2B. No ****ing excuses, win the big game!

Possibly the biggest game of the season remaining. With all of those big names out for the Caps, there is indeed no excuses for the Panthers to lose this game, especially with everyone except Soupy to have so much time off between games and the Caps played tonight for 65 minutes. Just freaking win it, Panthers!

If that's the case, then yeah no excuse not to win this won. It would be really nice to start the second half with a nice winning streak.

So pumped for tonight! It's great having meaningful games like this after the All Star break, and not "gotta win to only be 6 points out of 8th"... how great is it to say: "win tonight and we take back the Division lead and gain valuable points against WASHINGTON...."

GO PANTHERS!

According to GR, Clemmer is likely the starter again tonight.

If true I don't like this. We need Theo to get back to his old form. He can't do that from the bench. This is an important game and despite how well he's played recently, his pengent for giving up weak goals is not something we can risk tonight IMO.

Things go from bad to worse. GR reports the following:

Versteeg out with the flu
Clem will start because Theo is still not 100%. Foster has been recalled.
Upshall will get sports hernia surgery tomorrow so he's done for a while.

The only good news I heard was that Sturm was pretty close to returning, but I'm not sure how important that's really gonna be. Oy.

Looking to get 2 points here. Is it a must-win be all end all? Of course not, but this thread will seem like it later on tonight. Just win, baby! Go Panthers!

As Erick and gizmo already alluded to. It's tough not to expect them to win tonight. Yeah we might not have Versteeg, but I think the odds are win us.

I think tonight is a game that is a perfect benchmark of the character of this team. This is an important game.

GO PANTHERS!

See, I try to be as optimistic as I can, but I am just not optimistic at all with Clemmensen in net. Washington is still a dangerous team without those players, taking them lightly will be a huge mistake.

This will be a hard game to win. Just have that feeling.

Upshall's contract just became more worthless than Jovo's in my mind if the injuries just keep up every season. I'm not happy that Theodore is still not back to normal form, but think that Clemmensen realizes that he'll have to play another outstanding game tonight to get the win. Hopefully spending the week in Disney World helped his focus to some extent. Bad time for Versteeg to get the flu too.

Washington fans must think of the same of Theodore, lol.
I remember the first meeting here, the buzz for the game on the Panthers site was Vokoun vs. Theodore and neither one played.

Not a big deal, imo. Sucks to lose Versteeg, but at least it's only a flu. Upshall being out is a blessing in disguise considering how irrelevant he's been this year.

Hopefully Tallon can trade Olesz, err Upshall, for a very good defenseman!

I'm more worried about the team's ability to score more than 2 goals, at this point.

What if the Panthers win 2-0 tonight? Still going to worry? I don't understand the obsession with how many goals they do or don't score in a game. I mean I know they are injuried right now, but we still got plenty of talent on the team to be able to bury the biscuit. Also, when this team was completely healthy and firing on all cylinders, we beat the defending Stanley Cup Champs 2-0, so why does how many goals it took to win more important then the win itself? A win is a win right? who cares if it was a 2-1 win, or a 5-0 blowout, it's still 2 points and it still goes into the win column.

Also, I think we all know the talent on this team can score more than 2 goals in a game, they've been going through a lot with all these darn injuries and I think once they get going on a winning streak, the goals will start coming. I know we hate the injury excuse but it is true, we are missing Steeg,Kuli,Jovo, and Theo because of injuries, and they are a huge part of our team and success.
