2011-12 Mid-Season Prospect Poll: #1

Considering we've played 50 games, I figured now may be a good time to start this up. Plus, if we need anything, it's something else to argue about.

Ruckus, if you want to take over for me after this poll, feel free. I just wanted to get this going.

Luke Adam has played >65 NHL games, and thus is no longer considered a prospect. Enroth has not yet appeared in 45 games, and is not yet 24 years old, and thus is still considered a prospect.

HF's prospect criteria can be found here: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect/

Armia. He had a great WJCs and he's been a point/game player for the last 20 games or so playing against men in Finland.

Add JGL.

Armia
add Catennaci

remove Enroth, he's been IN the NHL for over 100 games (silly rules can be broken, to produce a more accurate prospect list)

Armia for the reasons Zip mentioned in addition to his being pretty much the only potential first liner in our system.

Add Crawford.

Jame, I don't disagree. If the board mods (Clock, JJ, et al.) and other HF brass (Chain, Rivet52) think he should be removed, then I'm fine with that. For now, though, I'm just going by the strict HF definition.

that would be cool. I just think the 5-10 votes Enroth is going to get in spots #2 - #6 until he wins would be more interesting if they were going to actual prospects.

Armia, add Cat. Should be interesting to see who gets voted on, assuming Cat and JGL go 1-2

My bad. Skipped right over his name. Couldn't believe people were saying add JGL and not Pysyk. List looks good.

Enroth is still considered a prospect by the rules of this site. That you don't see him as one anymore doesn't change this fact one bit.

Now, after we've seen Armia and Kassian go in different directions, I'm okay with Armia at 1. Not the day after he was drafted, though

Add Cat.

McNasty better get some lovin' here, too

And I agree that a full-time NHL backup goaltender is, at this point, no longer a prospect. HF needs a criteria tweak....ED???????

The McNabb-Kassian-Pysyk and Sundher-Cat (sounds like Thundercat) matchups are the ones that I'm most intrigued by in this mid-season poll.

I am suggesting, that WE as an intelligent fan base, remove him from the list.

we as a fan base are conducting a poll, i think we are capable of adjusting the rules when the logic is sound.

I would put Pysyk as a distant third to McNabb/Kassian, would you not? We'll get there, though.

Sundher and Cat will be interesting, too. You know I'm in the Cat camp, but I know a lot like what Kev has and could potentially bring to the table.

MMMMMmmmMmmmmmmmm centersssssss

Agreed. He's not fighting for a job, he's not a prospect trying to prove himself anymore. He's Ryan Miller's backup, and is not a prospect. Let's get him off, pending no mod pushback.

We should stick to a certain set of rules and don't change it just because we don't "feel" that one player is a prospect anymore. There will always be cases like Enroth, or tweeners like Gragnani or Mancari a few polls ago.
If we want to change those rules, let's make a poll about this BEFORE we start the next round in the summer. But not voting for a high-quality prospect at all, just because you don't see him as a prospect anymore for a very subjective reason that isn't backed up by his age or games played, seems a bit childish.
Enroth has only played 38 games in the NHL so far. Everybody acts like he almost is an NHL-starter with multi-year NHL-experience and that just isn't the case.

Shouldn't the fact that Enroth already is Millers full-time back-up at only 23 years of age make him an even better prospect? I think it's pretty far fetched to take him off this list BECAUSE he is a very good player while still being pretty young and not having played a lot of games.

To me, prospects are guys who have yet to make the NHL, or prove that they can be NHLers. Enroth doesn't fit that category.

There's the prospect that he can blossom into a star, yes - but for organizational stature, he's the backup to the starting goalie. Not a prospect - he can clearly play at this level in some capacity.
