realize there are still a few games left but these guys gotta be the front runners...?

Tavares: 10gp, 6g, 17pts, 3gwg, +9, great faceoff %

Malkin: 10gp, 11g, 15pts, 3gwg, +7

Halak: 7gp, 7w, 8ga, 3so, crazy gaa & sv%

..think i gotta go with Halak at this point..

That's a tough one. I'll go JT because I have a bigtime guy-crush on him right now, but I could see any of them getting it.

Malkin will win it. He is leading the "crosby less Pens". Tavares is leading the "talent less Isles" . Which one sounds better to the hockey world?

Too bad for Nabby that he started the month poorly. He's been superb in his last 4 or 5 starts. I'd have to say that Halak's #'s would get him the #1 and a close 2nd/3rd race with JT and Malkin. I've only seen Malkin's #'s so has he been as dominant as JT?

I've been thinking about this question for 15 minutes now, just staring into space. So I'll just say JT - he will not be denied.

Those Halak numbers are insane. You are on an Isles board so we are biased, but both Halak and Tavares would be good choices.

That has to be player of the week. The month isn't over yet so how could it be released?

Yeah, especially because Nabokov had a bad start to the month. This is definitely player of the week.

Just looking at the title of this thread, before even looking at it, I thought for sure Malkin had the point lead for the month of January, every where I turn I saw malkin highlights. I was shocked to see JT ahead of him. Is this JT's best month ever ? I'm guessing it is.

I will say though that Malkin is the best player in the NHL at this moment. Not because he leads the NHL in points, but I always had Malkin as the 3rd best, he's bypassed Crosby and Ovechkin at this point. He's already led the NHL in scoring, and won a Conn Smythe trophy. He looks to be completely healthy, and he is just dominating at this point.

Going purely by the stats it seems like it has to be Halak-JT-Malkin.... but I mean, I havent seen Malkin play, he could be putting up those numbers while doing cartwheels so I mean... numbers arent everything

Malkin is having an amazing season. Some of the highlights I saw were jaw dropping. He's got sick hands, great size, and good speed. Tavares is having an amazing month.

Malkin thrives in the spotlight. As long as he plays in Pitt he will be second fiddle to Crosby, but if he was on another team with half way decent support he'd be vieing with Sid for best player in the league honors.

Gotta go with Halak, he is playing out of his mind, the Blues have such a great 1-2 combo. As of right now JT is second and then Malkin IMO, going with points over goals.

Wait until JT rips up the Maple Leafs two times and we'll re-assess the Player of the Month.

Final numbers for the presumed top 3:

Halak: 7-1, 1.36 GAA, .946 SV%, 3 SOs
Tavares: 9 goals, 13 assists, +11
Malkin: 12 goals, 4 assists, +4

I think it's a toss-up between JT and Halak, Tavares might get it because St. Louis is a defensive beast no matter who's in net.

That +11 means a lot too. This HAS to be JT's best month ever. He really is just dominating, even when not scoring, he just is a beast.
