Very high tempo in the first period. The fourth lines set the tone early on with a couple of solid high energy shifts. A bit too high perhaps, both teams have had some trouble passing. Not that many tape to tape ones...
Rinaldo-Schenn-Simmonds had some energy shifts as well. Schenn's just hitting everything that moves right now. Nice goal by Simmonds and a very good screen by Rinaldo.
Matt Carle had a very strong period, up until that penalty. He even cleared the crease a couple of times, and went right through Hörnqvist one time. Bourdon's had some giveaways though.
PK continues to be very good.
While we've had some clear chances (three posts?), we're still a bit lucky to be leading this game. They've pinned us to our zone a lot more often than we've been able to get some pressure in theirs. We need to step it up a bit if we're gonna be able to keep this lead.
Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr looks to be getting back into old form again though. Giroux even shot the puck that one time.
Lilja had a solid first period! And the overall team defense forwards and D's included had a strong period also. Bourdon has been out of position a few times though and has had multiple bad games lately.
Really? Zac "I have no offense" Rinaldo on the 3rd line?
The reason to have Read on the fourth line could be that Laviolette wants someone a little bit more reliable defensively to center it than Scrabbles. That Sestito-Scrabbles-Rinaldo line might be fun to watch, but they are a trainwreck if they get pinned down in their own zone. I'm a little bit surprised that it's not Sestito that's on the third line however.
I'm guessing there will be some double-shifting on Rinaldo's position as the game goes on though. Sestito, Scrabbles and Rinaldo all ending up on around 8-10 minutes of ice time.
