If you made it to the NHL..

In all honesty, taking into consideration the weather, taxes, media, living conditions, etc..

Would you want to play for Mtl??

I don't mean at the end of your career, nor do I mean if you were drafted here.
As much as it pains me to admit it, because I'm from here, I'd have a hard time passing up tropical weather in order to play here early on.

if I made it to the NHL, it means that the top 1billion top players have all died.

But I would LOVE to be paid league minimum to sit at the end of the bench for the HABS. I'd fill waterbottles, I'd even do foot and leg rubs

Depends on my skill level.
If I'm a plugger like Darche, no.
If I'm a generational superstar, yes.

Lol, no.

Bad weather, taxes, too much attention.

LA or San Jose for me.

Montreal is my first no matter how good I am. If not it depends how good I am. If I were Crosby good I'd love to try and revive or create a legacy in a non traditional market like Phoenix( assuming mtl isnt an option). If not, Cali and Florida are good.

I'd agree with that. I'd only want to be here if I could help the team. I wouldn't want to drag it down or be a goat.

To be honest, unless I'm drafted from Montreal, I'd have a hard time wanting to come here.
I don't think there's anything that would beat going to the Arena in flip flops, having a nice BBQ and chilling in the pool after the game, not having every reporter spew dumb crap about me that would affect not only me but my family, and having my privacy.
I'd have a hard time passing this up in order to come play here.

guess we can finally weed out the true fans from the rest...

weather, taxes, media, language... none of these issues would bother someone truly passionate about the Bleu, Blanc, Rouge

not surprised in the least from the early "no's"

You have to be able to differ being a fan and a professional.

That would make sense, except being fan as absolutely nothing to do with this..

It's true but I think its an experience that cannot be matched. I understand some not wanting an entire career here but to not play here is missing out.

I agree with you. People shouldn't blindly accept something just because. Ppl can not want to play here and be fans anyway.

A mild "yes" because of family and friends and I don't mind the weather. I wouldn't come running to MTL but I wouldn't avoid it either. Fans would probably love me because I've always played hard no matter what the sport but the media would probably want me gone because I would troll those morons so hard (with a few exceptions ).

Same here and I would go so far as to say: if I'm just a good player, no.

You need to be, like you said, a generational superstar a la Lemieux or Crosby. If you're just a good player, which means you will go through slumps, your life will be harder in MTL. If you are a superstar, you are a god here.

MTL would be the only team I'd play for, that would really make it a hockey-related dream come true.

It's not that much about playing in the NHL, it's about playing for le Canadiens de Montréal.

I'm really surprised some wouldn't. Cheering for a team you wouldn't even play for?

Yes, because it's one thing to cheer for a team, and play for one. Much much much different scenarios.

I know it might be tough for some to perceive, but if anybody here made it to the NHL, they wouldn't have spent 40-50years being a fan of Mtl. They wouldn't have spent as much time watching them play, analyzing them and management, etc. They would have been busy with their own careers and trust me, they would have become fans of whichever team drafted them.
I think a lot of people aren't really thinking this through and are just going with their fanatic hearts, which wasn't the point here, otherwise the answer would have been an obvious yes for everybody.

I think if you take into consideration that just MAKING IT to the NHL is such a long and hard process, lots of people would just want to enjoy their time under the sun (literally in some cases ) and can go without the pressure, the scrutiny and stuff like that that make their career harder.

Would I want to play in Montreal? Of course.

But, if I were a pending UFA would I go to Montreal and not listen to offers from any other team? Of course not. I may bleed bleu blanc et rouge, but my wife doesn't (we're working on my daughter, but currently her opinions are expressed through single syllables and filling her diaper - not a bad analogy for this season, mind you). Money matters, as does the lifestyle available to my family. My wife, I think, would much prefer winters in Florida or California to summers in Montreal and quality education is important for my daughter.

In short I wouldn't reject the Canadiens out of hand, but I wouldn't accept them either.

Taking my family and my mental health into account, it would be a no brainer not to play in Montreal. The taxes and langauge issue are just a bonus disincentive.

Hell Benoit Brunet was talking about how his daughter was harrassed because of his abilities as a commentator. Imagine your kids when you are a player.
